Exactly.

Get er done, Biden. SCOTUS. Then lock up this MFer.

Seriously - we are still working out all of the problems from being soft on the Confederacy after the Civil War. Unity won't happen until the cancer is exposed and removed.

I think the law requires intent or gross negligence. I don’t know how easy that is going to be to prove with a White House that was full of shysters.

Nah, I think they make it pretty clear how documents are to be treated. Like just about everyone else in DC, my husband has worked at high clearances and it’s not a mystery how those documents are supposed to be treated. They don’t just “go home” with you and there’s no need for intent or gross negligence. We all know or know of people who have taken documents home or left them on metro. Those people do not usually keep their jobs, and in this instance of a President*** absconding with top secret documents, should not keep his liberty. Reality Winner served years for one page, not god knows how many pages in 15 boxes (so far).

I think the Rs will come out to say that, as president, Trump was allowed to declassify whatever he wanted. That was their response the last time something like this happened where, I believe, he divulged info to the Russians when they visited the White House. That's probably when he got the idea that he can take whatever he wanted.

Trump wiping his ass with state secrets tells you everything about him and his supporters.

He also took the Dorian sharpied map. That's a double nono since his use of the sharpie was also illegal. Presumably that was just so he wouldn't be laughed at in the future.

And then there were the letters from N. Korea. Who he claims to still speak to. Not knowing what was in those letters is a major problem for this and future administrations.

National Archives has asked DOJ to investigate Trump’s handling of documents.

Didn't want that to end up in the Smithsonian as part of an exhibit on his presidential stupidity.

Exactly. Time to bring down the hammer, Biden.

He could have taken it in an effort to spare himself further humiliation or he could have taken it (and all the rest) to auction it off one day, for a little cash infusion. Both equally believable.

That defense may have worked while he was president, but former presidents have no authority to declassify anything. This is not about classified information that he had while he was president; it’s about classified information he retained well after he left office.

I wish he could, but… what would you have him do, precisely? Use the DOJ as his personal law firm like Donnie did? The “mainstream” media can’t even bothered to report on this when possible misuse of classified information was, according to their 2016 coverage of Mrs. Clinton, the biggest, most dire emergency ever to have happened to the US. In other words, even “mainstream” news would cover any serious attempt to rout out the traitors as a political hit job. No one would support it with the slanted way the media covers everything.

Having the DOJ prosecute crimes committed against the US is no way equivalent to how DJT abused his power with the DOJ.

The correct answer was to spare himself humiliation by not being an a-hole in the first place. But... as history shows, he couldn't help himself.
