+1. They won't necessarily be starters at the big name private schools and wealthy public schools, but they will make varsity as a freshman. Anywhere else, they will probably be one of the starters.

Agreed which is why I dont understand parents complaining. I will say a number of the top private schools dont let freshmen on varsity without exceptional exemption but almost always those freshmen are allowed to practice with varsity hence my mystification with parents whining about their kids not making team. I do think a number of ecnl kids dont make the cut and oh well they are just not that good.

This is a load of garbage. You tell me how a third or fourth team player is more deserving to make a Varsity HS team over an ECNL player of ANY caliber. The former making it is purely political and that's all there is to it. And that leads to a team and a coach who don't deserve to win, and usually don't.

They are faster.

Wow hit a nerve? Who knows, havent seen the kid play. I do know after the top 5 or so players on a ecnl 1 team there is not much of a difference between the rest of the roster and the top half or so of the next level down. ( ecnl 2, edp top league etc.). And as stated above club teams are as political as hs teams

Most HS soccer is horrible. The coaches play the biggest and fastest kids. They don't care about technical ability. They just want to win, even at jv.

How horrible! A high school coach just wants to win. Please explain what they should be doing other than trying to win? It’s literally the job of a high school coach. High school soccer is not an environment set up for player development or college recruiting. That’s exactly what ECNL is doing.

HS coaches can still develop

New poster here. I think the problem is not that they are trying to win, it's that they think the best way to do so is to pick big, fast, unskilled players over more skilled players. If this happens (and I rather suspect it does), and if it happens because the high school coach is not capable of using the more skilled players to win games (again I suspect this is often true as well) then that is a bit depressing.

That's all true. But it would be sad if, as I suggest above, the reason the high school coach is picking big, fast players is because that does give him a better chance to win games only because he (or she) doesn't have a clue how to use skillful players to win.

"skilled player" is go to when the formerly bigger faster, kid has got caught. Whatever. HS is not a boggeyman picking on your kid. If anything your ecnl club is to blame for feeding you lies about how much better you are off paying them money for your kid to play in front of college coaches from west southern illinois

Question: I have experience with girls soccer only, but from
what I see on the boys side is that some good players may also be developing in the Latin American leagues. They don’t have the flashy ECNL lablel, but have been playing against older skilled players. It may be a different style of play, but HS coaches are trying to win. These players could be “taking” varsity spots away from the ECNL boys.

This does not happen as much on the girls side. Hispanic families usually do not support girls playing soccer as much as for boys.

This is an observation not a question. But I agree with your observation

I wish there was more support for Hispanic girl players at the younger ages from their families bc there are many talented girls out there.
