New poster here.  I think the problem is not that they are trying to win, it's that they think the best way to do so is to pick big, fast, unskilled players over more skilled players.  If this happens (and I rather suspect it does), and if it happens because the high school coach is not capable of using the more skilled players to win games (again I suspect this is often true as well) then that is a bit depressing.

That's all true.  But it would be sad if, as I suggest above, the reason the high school coach is picking big, fast players is because that does give him a better chance to win games only because he (or she) doesn't have a clue how to use skillful players to win.[/quote]
