What colleges are falling out of fashion?

Why do you say UT - great school…popular with those who value academics and balanced experience!

Wonderful school. My brother went there, had a great time and got rich. But it’s impossible to get in there from outside of Texas.

It’s a fantastic school but it’s not trendy right now

Their admissions stats indicate otherwise.

But, any time kids talk about it, people link to videos of the rats.

The Ohio and PA LACs are taking the first hit but eventually may spread to the NE ones, too. It also shows in rising popularity of colleges like Northeastern, Temple, College of Charleston, etc.

My kid seemed drawn to the pace of such backwaters. She gets her fix of Bethesda when she comes home but chose the bucolic as an ideal setting for learning and living stress free in a closed community of like minded young people I think.

My senior also wanted peace and quiet and a small school and applied ED to a remote SLAC. This is very kid dependent.

...hmmm...no. I'm as liberal you get and I would probably hold my nose and send my DS to Rice if he had even a prayer of getting in. It looks like an absolutely phenomenal school. I wouldn't do that for other Texas schools -- too many good places elsewhere.

Picking schools based on political bias…now that is open-mindedness…I guess UF is out for you too as you don’t want to expose your kids to opposing local views 😀 (in fear that they might actually switch sides?)

It’s not political anymore - it’s about morality. I don’t want my daughter going to a school that sees women as incubators or thinks Black Lives don’t matter. I don’t want her exposed to the cruelty and stupidity of the current conservative movement or the worship of gun ownership. I will not pay to have her exposed to the belief that immigrants are evil.

Not ever going to happen.

Same. Avoid Texas like the plague.

And yet their admissions rates have plummeted.

Q: "Which colleges are falling out of favor?"

DCUM: "The colleges that my kids / I couldn't get into, or hate because of some dumb sports rivalry."

Emory, WashU, Rice, most Texas schools, Georgetown.

A good debater can argue either side of an issue and an educated person will be knowledgeable about opposing viewpoints.

I understand why someone would choose to not terminate a pregnancy but when they will not tolerate giving me or my DCs the same option to have a choice....the battle is on.

No need to go to a place moving backwards in time and stripping away rights that we have had our entire lives.

Wow, I had no idea SCHOOLS were capable of holding such opinions! Or even opinions at all! Care to point me to anything that suggests Rice sees women as incubators or thinks Black Lives don't matter?

+1
Most SLAC have bad location.

Macalester has a great location. It’s on the edge of St Paul (away from downtown) in a very cool neighborhood full of great restaurants, artsy shops and pretty, old homes.

So tried to get DC to ED, but no. Great neighborhood. Would live there if I were in that area!

Or if you love outside adventures...hiking, skiing, canoeing, kyackinq, climbing, biking etc...some if these locations are outstanding.

Not quite what you’re asking, but as a Cornell grad in the 90’s, I’m surprised by all the Cornell insults and negativity on DCUM. (Doesn’t bother me, of course, but wouldn’t have guessed.)
