Stop try9ing to make Spica happen. He has the fewest supporters among DC voters - only 169 as of the April filing.

No need to resort to racial slurs and refusing to take taxpayer money isn’t disqualifying. Indeed, I don’t think Mendelson is taking public funds.

And McDuffie may have been popular, but he was running for the top legal job in the city, and he wasn’t legally qualified to do so. Spiva followed the legal process to challenge it, and the Board of Elections agreed with Spiva’s legal position. McDuffie appealed to the highest court in the city, and they unanimously rejected his legal position.

McDuffie could have gotten re-elected to the Council without much effort, but he chose to seek a position for which he was not legally qualified. Spiva pointed it out, but McDuffie dug his own political grave.

It was a typo, Spiva, not Spica.

And running for AG means being beholden to the people of the city, not special interests. Moreso than any other elected seat in the city, the optics of taking PAC and special interests money as an AG candidate are not a good look.

In my book, it is disqualifying.

I know Spiva. I served on a board with him. I wasn't impressed. I couldn't wait until his term expired.

Thanks for posting this. I might be leaning towards Schwalb now. Not impressed by Spiva's endorsements (The Sierra Club also endorsed Mendelson over Erin Palmer which seems like more of an endorsement of the status quo as Erin Palmer's stated position on environmental issues are much more progressive than Mendelson's) (Also Racine's record on prosecuting youth offenders is weak so not sure how useful his endorsement is).

Interesting...Spiva has only ~500 individual DC donors.

That doesn't seem very viable for a city wide race.

Are any of the DAs in contention tough on crime? Or is it more woke agenda no bail, no incarceration, sort of namby pamby slap on wrist for violent felons?

DC’s AG has nothing to do with the prosecution of adults charged with violent crimes. They do however handle the prosecution of juveniles charged with violent crime.

Why would any sane voter vote for a “tough on crime” candidate?

Criminal defendants up to the age of 26 are eligible to be prosecuted by the DC AG as juvenile offenders.

If you needed major surgery would you pick an MD who hadn’t been in an operating room in over a decade? This is an illustration of so much of what is wrong with DC.

As far as I remember, anybody with a current law license is a lawyer and eligible to represent someone in court. They may not be the best option but they are an option.

This is the one race where I haven’t even narrowed it down yet.

What is Ryan Jones doing now that he left Attorney General Schwalb’s office back in November? He was younger than the other candidates, but seemed to have a lot of potential.

Interestingly, he's using the city's public financing program to fundraise - not taking large corporate donations. Both Racine and Irv Nelson (the last appointed AG in DC) endorsed him immediately. Fortunate for DC Schwalb is throwing his hat in the ring.

Schwalb is a major cause of the current crime epidemic.

He IS the problem, not the solution.
