I'm not a nanny; I'm a 50 year old mother of an 18 year old and a 15 year old so our nanny days are well past. I think OP sounds clinically insane. |
None necessary. OP has a housekeeper to watch the baby if the nanny desperately needs to cut/shred food. And an Alexa for weather. And a guaranteed break for lunch to use her phone. Not OP but yes - I absolutely go through my work day without looking at my phone until lunch. |
I am a nanny and I actually agree with OP. Phone use has gotten ridiculous among nannies and I understand OP’s concerns. |
Or living a fantasy - if you have a full-time housekeeper as well as “nanny,” why are you here asking for advice? Don’t you have a family lawyer to take care of employment contracts? If all your candidates are college educated with teaching experience, surely you are offering benefits and other perks that already require legal advice for the employment contract. You’re just here to stir the pot. |
And what a pot was stirred! It’s scary how addicted some of you are to your phones. It’s unhealthy and this thread proved it. |
Are you able to step away from the baby or do you have to call the housekeeper to watch over the baby while you … i don’t know, use the bathroom? Make a call? |
I’m a nanny and work for an extremely high profile family. I can’t even bring my phone into their home, I check it in with security. I get it back 11 hours later, after my shift. I have a nanny phone. Honestly it has made me a more engaged nanny as I used to mindlessly scroll while the kids played independently. Now at this job I don’t have that option. Sucks that I won’t know about emergencies until after my shift, but that’s the job I chose. I’m also paid 120k a year which I’m sure is way more than op is paying. |
I see it more as not trusting your employee. Writing phone use in the contract is remarkably controlling. I’d happily not use my phone, but if you set it as a term of employment I’d not sign. |
This makes more sense than what OP is proposing. |
Will the nanny be allowed to give out the number for said Apple Watch to all of her family and close friends in case they need to reach her in an emergency during the work day? |
ok karen |
I take it you don’t have kids of your own or elderly parents or a spouse that may need to reach you. |
THIS! But I’m still tripping that she won’t be able to get ant pictures or videos of the baby during the day. I mean I was constantly call8ng my nanny asking “What y’all doing? Can you send me a picture?” |
She’s not, but how convinced she is of her own righteousness is totally hilarious. |
