and Juri !! |

Nothing wrong with either Julian or Rowan. I don't understand why some say that Rowan is hard to pronounce.
But somebody suggested Rocco and I love it! |
| I would chose Julian. Rowan is a NJ State College. |
| I like Julian better for a boy. I've only seen Rowan used as a girl's name. |
| I don't really like either, but if you must, pick Julian. Rowan has become a girl's name, and not a good one either. |
|
Rowan is a tree.
Other plant names include Heath, Arliss, and Cedar. Don't laugh. I know a wee Cedar (boy) and also a Sequoyah (girl.) |
| Julian. I hate these dumb nature names. |
James and Leo are great! Stick with those, imo |
| I have a Julian and a Leo, so I love both obviously. James was on our list, but a close relative beat us to it. |
| My teenager’s name is Julian and I love the name and get good reactions to it generally. He does get some confusion with Jillian or Julie, but quickly corrected after they see he is a boy so it doesn’t matter. So many names are both genders now anyway. Many nicknames if you like options - Jay, Jules, Jude. Popular enough that it’s recognizable but not popular in that there aren’t a bunch. Linguistically pleasing and has positive cool kid vibes because of Julian Lennon. |

I'm surprised no one has brought up that Julian means "bearded." I'm not super into choosing names for their meanings, but I couldn't get past that.
I have a now grown male Rowan. He likes his name and so do I.
|
I have a Leo who is in his 20s now. We named him when the name Leo was about 400th on the soc sec name list. He has a cousin Julien. It's been interesting to see the rise of Leo. |

Rowan is a girl's name.
Juian is really nice. |

This is a revival of an old thread, but just my $0.02 on the name Rowan which is my 10 yr old son’s name. I’ve heard of girls being named Rowan, but have never met one. I know a few boys named Rowan. We did pick it for the tree connection but like it’s not necessarily obvious like names such as Cedar. I still love the name. My son loved meeting Rowan trees in person on the summit on a great hike at Dolly Sods.
I really love the name Julian also. |

OP, come back and tell us what you went with!
I like them both. I do know several female Rowans so I might have considered Ronan or even Roman for a similar-sounding option. |
