Hate James with the fire of a thousand suns, but that's a personal thing, so YMMV.
I actually like Julian a lot. Makes me think of Julian Lennon, which makes me think of his dad, which makes me hum "Imagine" which makes me feel peaceful. |
| I've only known female Rowans. Not many though. |
| OP, have you considered Ronan? |
|
I'd rank them
James Julian Leo Rowan |
Leo James ... Julian ... Rowan |
|
I’d order them this way:
Rowan Leo James Julian |
Haha honestly these responses make me feel better because it’s clear everyone truly has their own very unique feelings about names. |

Julian
Patrick Samuel Xavier Dimitri Felix Tobias Elian Martin Rocco Leander Milo Francis Bruno Hugo Gregory |
| Both are very ugly. And I say that having grown up with a lovely Uncle Julie. Both names are just awful. Both James and Leo are MUCH better. Much, much better. |
| Julian is tok many syllables and Rowan is too popular. What about Easton? Or Weston? I like Owen bettter than Rowan. |
| LOVE James and Leo. I’ve never met a male Rowan, know several girls though. I don’t like Julian much, but it’s better than Rowan for a boy I guess. |
Same, but I really dislike Rowan. It feels so try hard. |
This is a good list of names in the same vein. Lots of good options here to consider. |
|
James and Leo are so much better!!
Have you considered Leo?? |
|
Julian and Rowan aren’t very masculine.
Rowan is more frequently used for girls. James and Leo are more masculine and traditional. I can’t tell what kind of names you like given the 50/50 split of the 4 names you shared. Any of these grab you? Dylan (sorta like Julian and Rowan, but more masculine) Colin Evan Martin Kevin Devin Joshua/Josh Thomas Andrew/Drew |
