Arlo? Otto? Stefan? Victor? What is going on with this list? |
Love this so much. I agree.
|
If you like Leo what about Liam? |
| I like the suggestion for Roman over Rowan. I only know girl rowans. Know that Julian will be shortened to Jules. James is classic, albeit boring, but cant go wrong with it. Leo is fine, but a tad basic. |
Julian is fine. Go with Julian. |
|
My youngest DS is Julian. I wanted three syllables and it is a nod to my love of Roman history.
I hear a lot of compliments on the name and it really suits him. One downside is the Jillian confusion. A pro is the Hispanic kids say it with a cool Spanish flair. I would say when people say it's "not masculine" it's because it is more often used in England. Probably the people saying that their kids are named something 'Murican like Remington. I have family in England so it works for us. I considered Rowan as well! |
Sigh. Why bring up politics? I’m a bleeding heart liberal who thinks Julian isn’t masculine. Why? Because I’m a third generation American steeped in American culture and naming conventions, and the pop culture reference for Julian is John Lennon’s son…who is not very masculine. Plus, it sounds pretty. I similarly do not like the name Remington because it connotes a gun maker and the 80s show Remington Steele. Plus, it simply isn’t a mainstream name. Op seems to have disappeared. There are several lists with new suggestions, yet no response. |
PP here- who brought up politics? I just said 'Murica that is a reference to a culture not politics. And why in the word would you say Julian Lennon isn't "masculine"?? Truly bizzare. Because he is a musician? Because he is a tenor? Maybe you need to do some work my fellow liberal and unpack the toxic masculinity/Patriarchy you are carrying around that men can't be artistic. |
| And did you miss my reference to Roman history and more specifically Julius Caesar who lemme fill you in was a general, conquered Gaul, shagged Cleopatra and became Dictator for Life of a huge empire. Is that not "manly" enough for you? |
| Neither |
If your husband thinks Julian is masculine enough, then go for it. Be prepared for the nn Jules. I have an adult friend named Julian who detests his name and hated when people called him Jules. He goes by Jay now. |
You should poll average American children and adults to see if they think Julian evokes Julius Caesar badass conqueror vibes. Let us know what you discover. |
No. People say it’s not masculine because it sounds like Julianne or Jillian and it is more a pretty name than a strong name. |
In a website full of try-hard nonsense, this might be the try-hardiest. Cringe. |
Listen. I was just defending my son's name from being called not "masculine." I didn't choose it b.c Caesar was "manly" I just love Roman history. Tell me your kid's name then if it's so perfect |
