Gov Hogan announcement re schools this week?

Anonymous
Does anyone know anything about the announcement regarding schools by Gov Hogan that is apparently happening this week? (It was mentioned in this evening’s update from the MCPS Superintendent.) Any intel about date/timing/content?

Maryland is *not* trending well.

I hope he announces something county specific tied to test positivity and new cases per million per day.

I think they will announce that schools cannot open yet. But I have no insider knowledge. Just a guess.

Stop spreading false info, hoping that if you say it enough number of times, people will believe you. First off, Maryland is currently trending sideways, not deteriorating. Secondly MoCo continues to improve (look at hospitalization, ICU, acute beds statistics.) I would not be surprised if the 3 day positivity average is 3% within a week in MoCo.

I agree that the Disaster Is Upon Us assertions are not supported by the data, but it's true that hospitalizations/ICU hospitalizations/acute care bed utilization are lagging indicators. And number of new confirmed cases may also be a lagging indicator, unfortunately, if it's taking labs over a week to get results back. I would not say that Montgomery County is continuing to improve.

Also I don't think that the numbers in Montgomery County are primarily driven by affluent DCUM-y people vacationing in Houston or Jacksonville. They're driven by low-income Latino people with essential jobs with public contact, living in crowded household conditions, with limited access to healthcare resources. So maybe the affluent DCUM-y people who have been ignoring equity issues should start paying attention to them, if only out of pure self-interest.

I’m confused... most counties have put out their plans regarding schools so what is to be announced?

None of Maryland’s numbers are increasing (positivity rate, hospitalizations, deaths), not declining as rapid,u as before, bu to de you get below 5 percent, that is inevitable.

Thought I read in another thread that the official announcement for MCPS in the fall is aug 6. Did I get that wrong?

Maryland's new cases per day are very much increasing.

Deaths lag by about 4 weeks. Our death rates will rise, and hospitalization rates will rise sooner.

Our hospitalization rates are rising.

We need to be as low as some of the New England states -- 2% positivity rate and less than 30 new cases per million per day. That's the spot where you can control this thing with test-quarantine-contact trace.

We are too high.

I agree new cases per day for Montgomery county aren't skyrocketing, but I just did an average of new cases per day for the past 7 days and MOCO is at 89 new cases per million per day. That's too high. Even if your positivity rate is 2%.

MoCo isn't deteriorating; you are doing better than many counties. But you are trending worse and worse. Note more and more red boxes over time.
