BOE Fall Plan Meeting

Anonymous
If you're watching the BOE meeting now that is supposed to be about the fall return plan, Jack Smith just went on a ten minute filibuster about racial equity and equality, citing his own op ed in the Bethesda Beat. I'm not sure he knows school starts in six weeks.

Monifa McKnight is now up to talk race for ten minutes. She just cited climate data in schools being important to analyze but the climate surveys were cancelled this spring because MCPS knew the data would be negative.

Thank you very much for watching, and it would be great if you reported on what's going on, without editorializing, thank you!

I’m all for BLM but just tuned in - did they already finish talking about recovery plan,?

If you don't think that racial equity and equality are a key part of decision making for recovery of learning, you need to think again. We cannot afford to come up with a plan that focuses on the most vocal, wealthy, and non-POC members of our community. The students most severely affected by the pandemic are poor students and BIPOC. Now is the time that these issues need to be addressed.

(And that's pretty much what Dr. McKnight is explaining right now.)

The recovery plan update is scheduled to start at 1:40.

All this is very important but every single minute of energy and effort needs to go toward fall planning right now. There is no urgency to get ready for August 31.

DP. I'm pretty sure that what the PP was saying is that it needs to be part of fall planning. Not an extra, not an add-on. Part of.

NP. This isn’t the associated press and it is unreasonable for you to try to dictate how others provide you info. If you care that much watch it yourself or find other sources of coverage. Talk about entitlement to demand people describe it in the way you prefer.

When does this end? 2pm?

Of course it should. But it would be nice to address it as part of the plan instead of talking endlessly about equity without relation to any plan. Equity is important. Got it. We must consider equity in every decision we make. Got it. So what's the plan?
