JefCup is doomed

Does anyone know of any serious clubs doing JefCup? I don't imagine that anyone is traveling from outside the DMV or neighboring

No way this tournament will happen, and they won’t give refunds either.

I think Jeff Cup is another example of the cart before the horse that we are seeing from clubs who, desperate to get back on the field ($$$) are pushing a narrative of go-go-go when the reality is more 'wait and see'.

With no college coaches, overnight travel, cross-state travel, and out of shape kids prone to injuries, I can't see many clubs realistically justifying the trip at this time.

That doesn't mean people aren't going to advocate for going though...

I’m sure surf cup cancelling will put pressure on
Jeff cup to cancel. I doubt teams from far away will travel
And stay in hotels.

If july 1 is the day to return to phase 3 / normal play why wouldn’t it be in

I believe that US Club Soccer and USYS are not allowing travel and use of hotels for events yet. Therefore the teams that are not local will not be able to participate. I could be wrong about that, but that was how it was explained to me by someone involved with our club. I would guess most ECNL teams in the showcase bracket will back out as there will be no D1 coaches (though some will play because they can). My guess is that local teams who were signed up and are hoping to get their kids in front of D2 and D3 coaches (no ban on them attending as far as I am aware) may very well choose to play if the event is held. I have no rooting interest either way, but here are my 2 cents anyways.

Not sure they’ll have a choice on refunds if the government isn’t forcing them to cancel

it's not gonna happen

They can always pull of a LoudounSoccer.

Have people funnel their $$ to the organization, beat around the bush, delay communication and then provide an insulting statement claiming that in the best interest of people they have to NOT provide services while KEEPING every dime you gave them.

I think it’s a magnificent strategy. Why haven’t they thought of it yet?

With numbers trending down there for a bit there was some hope.... but obviously that is gone now.

GO back to your Loudoun Soccer Ripped off the Parents thread. Aren't you getting enough attention over there?

From what I've read about general event-type insurance, a cancellation is only official (and insured) when it is ordered by a government. If they don't get the permits, they cancel and can collect insurance. Or if it is a blizzard and there is a snow emergency or something, then they get reimbursed by insurance.

I don't have specific knowledge of Jeff Cup's setup, but have seen this in some other events.

You could do it as a regional tournament. Va and NC but how many people are going to stay in a hotel, eating take out in Richmond for a weekend? You will get the crazy “it just like the flu” soccer poster and his/her kid. They most likely are symptomatic.

Jeff cup make sense only for local teams who can just drive to richmond and come hack home. I doubt people will want to stay in hotels.
