No license? Not even the E or the two-hour F?

That's ridiculous. House coaches are usually required to have at least F or E, depending on age group. But someone picking up a paycheck for coaching can't be bothered to go to the class?

Does he/she have ANY credentials?

No more than your average kid. This person was given the task of deciding player movements for the coming year. Several parents have lodged complaints over the last year about coaching abilities.

Frankly, from what I've seen I don't know this person could earn one.

All you really need to do to get an F or an E is to stay awake.

Again-- I'm not sure he manage that

Completely surprised by this as most BIG clubs have the coaches credentials listed and it is truly a selling point to attract parents. Wow!

It's all posted on the Internet. Usually- at least 1 of the 4 coaches will have credentials. They are the ones posted as 'coach', but they are often not the ones that come to the games, run the practices or make the technical decision on where to move players.

Why do we suddenly have three different threads on Stoddert?

Why not? Tryouts are over in most places and people are probably looking for a change.

I am completely disgusted with our big club. I do think it's more a problem with our age group than the entire club. But--man, did they f*ck things up...completely.

Any feedback on the VYS rising U11 boys tryouts? My son went, but I wasn't able to observe any of them due to my work schedule (son got rides with friends).

If it was like the U12 tryouts, it appeared pretty crowded for the field size, and they did mostly small group scrimmaging - they had a few groups going at once and occasionally moved a kid from group to group. By the end it seemed like they had put teams together.

Any feedback on Mclean try outs, Annandale try-outs and Arlington?

Feedback, how so ?

Arlington was the same with no kids on lower teams being allowed on any of the fields with upper teams. They were spot filling vacancies. Some new players. A little movement here and there. Not much.

You have to leave and come back in order to get a look...or be completely new.

I'm guessing because it is very close to Arlington/McLean/Alex, etc. For people that want a change but don't want to add hours of commuting time.

I disagree with PP re Arlington tryouts. I know of one boy who was brand new to travel (in fact tried out and didn't make any team last year) who made the top U-11 team. For U-12 tryouts they even called an additional tryout. U-9 was wide open. Check 2014/15 rosters against 2015/16 acceptances (all available on ASA website) and you'll see some noticeable shifts. It isn't predetermined.

If they continue to evaluate in 3 hours they are going to continue to have problems.

They don't look at kids in games all year (or practices with kids segregated) and then make decisions after a 3-hour tryout session.

Head coaches need to be seeing what these kids can do under pressure and in a game situation. They need to look at a players consistency and their results.

I think a lot of problems are age group dependent. Not all age groups are run the same way and some don't suffer the same faults. Shifts in rosters mean nothing in and of themselves.

The left hand isn't talking to the right hand a lot of the time. Kids suffer because of it.

Changes are being implemented for the system. It remains to be seen if it will solve the problems.

They hired special "tryout" only coaches to evaluate the players and determine who made it and who didn't. While I get that they did this to get rid of the previous years of "favorites" and such, it really didn't not work as well as it should have.

Head coaches were not consulted about current travel players. Many got cut that are great assets on the field during actual games. These kids are going to go back to the Rec. league and will dominate the field.

The parents I've talked to from several age groups have expressed similar concerns - that the new VYS coaches came into tryouts with no real idea of how the players stack up, which is good for ensuring no one is given a spot b/c of their prior history/relationships but has lead to a number of kids being placed on teams they clearly have no place being on, and some pretty good players being sent down to house when they probably shouldn't have been, all based on a couple hours of small-sided scrimmages. The only positive I've heard from this is that many, if not all, of the academies have made clear that the rosters will be adjusted based on performances during the summer/pre-season training. The main negative is a concern that the new coaches' egos are so big, that they weren't interested to hear those that have been around the academies for a while. My take, VYS is going through the type of issues to be expected when a new technical staff is brought in, and is at least saying the right things about making changes as they become more familiar with the players, but it's too early to tell if they'll actually be willing to admit to making mistakes.

Sounds like a better player needs to have it turned on at all times.

I know there are good days and bad days but if you are more deserving ability wise over another player then even on your bad day the difference should still be noticeable.
