Why is there a demand to live in some locations more so than others?

I can't possibly think why that might be!

I bet a your local real estate agent can explain it?

Ha, yep. That prior poster whines incessantly about schools that are ranked higher than hers. It’s a clear inferiority complex, and for her, misery loves company.

DP. I'm sorry, but you people are so over the top annoying that I hope you get rezoned just to give you some humility. And to be blunt, your location sucks! I skipped right over it when buying a house. The schools are far away, shopping is far away, entertainment and activities are far away, commuter access is far away. I guess I can see why you are clinging to school rankings as the only thing you have going for you.

Fair Oaks mall, costco, whole foods are all 10 min away from crossfield. Reston Town center is maybe 15.

I mean if your driving to tysons 2 to shop then sure it's a bit of a drive.

I live here too and let’s be real the only good place that’s close by is RTC. I like that we can to a lot within about 20 min but we aren’t in some amazing fun place. It’s just good old suburbia.

But this is exactly why we moved here - I don't want to live close to things. We previously lived in a really congested area and even though there were things that were closer, it took forever to get there because of traffic/pedestrians/so many lights. It takes me just as long to get anywhere from where we live now as it did when we lived closer in. And I have a big yard and access to walking trails. And I'm a lot closer to all the wine, LOL!

I want all of that too, but for some reason in the past 25 years, Fairfax County wants more density.

It's ok, all the new data centers will just build over any open spaces we have left so no new people will be able to move in.

They cancelled the Western High School community meeting scheduled on November 14.

Also, the agenda for Novemeber 13 board meeting does not include the voting for programming decision.

What’s going on?

Would be very FCPS to say “we actually realized we didn’t purchase the school…sorry!”

Crossfield is probably the farthest of all the elementary schools under consideration from KAA.

The eastern side of Crossfield goes to Hughes/South Lakes.

That's only a small pocket and even that pocket would feed into KAA under Options C and D. There are also a number of Crossfield kids east of Lawyers Road attending Carson and Oakton. In fact, the entire Crossfield boundary sits east of Fairfax County Parkway.

I think pro Oakton families should use the fact Crossfield is the farthest of all the elementary schools under consideration. That would be a stronger argument than “rooted in Oakton.”

There are STILL five high schools now that are closer to our homes than Oakton. FIVE.

There are STILL five elementary schools that are closer to KAA than Crossfield. FIVE.

Your point doesn't work, because as we've discussed at length here, a lot of Crossfield families also live closer to those elementary schools, too. I know I live closer to KAA than a lot of people in Fox Mill Estates and people zoned to McNair and Coates. It's not about the schools, it's about where people live.

Of course.

But if you take an average, Crossfield people would be the farthest.

Very FCPS thing would be “People actually like a magnet idea. We should explore that option and it would take another six months.”

Reid has made too many gaffes on this.

If they drop this as a traditional school, oh boy.

There is still a meeting on naming the school.

No, there is a hearing on naming the school, but the scheduled vote on the Western HS's programming, which was on the calendar for November 13th, is not included in the meeting agenda.

These folks are hilariously bad at their jobs.

Lucy and the football.

There is also a meeting on the boundary review. Could be a connection there.

They really screwed things up by not stalling the boundary review and figuring out KAA first.

It would have made sense to say "we've got a lot on our plate so this boundary review will be limited to Coates and KAA."

But obviously they want to create some distance between the county-wide boundary changes and the 2027 election, so they'll just do everything poorly.

Reid is a terrible manager.

With all the different things Reid has told people, it is very difficult to believe that she is not a short timer.

She’s just not equipped to lead a division this large and she demonstrates that over and over again.

Does she have all golden parachute in her contract?

I can't believe they are canceling these meetings and pulling agenda items. This gives credence to the SL school rep who is saying they are going to slow down and not open the school in 2026 so they can listen to families fight over high school boundaries another year. As someone with a rising 9th grader, I'd prefer to decisions be made one way or another.
