I am the poster who many pages back was engaged in lengthy posts about why I don’t like Mamdani. But I will not question his intellect. He is very bright. Getting into Bronx Science is not easy. Getting into Bowdoin is not easy, even as a minority. I don’t like a lot of his plans but I think he is smart. Unlike many of the posters here. Good Lord.

His parents have strong ties to Columbia. Interesting he didn’t go there. Not sure if he got in.

Bottom line—if you’re a “faculty brat”
you get easier admissions. This is well known among some cohorts.

He was rejected and he put black as his race. His application was among many that was hacked and released. Faculty brat, affirmative action, still couldn’t get in. He’s a dumb dumb

It’s not Trinity or Horace Mann, to say the least.

I’m not sure if Mamdani’s parents specifically could have afforded one of those schools at the time, but I feel the need to remind everyone that in general the vast majority of smart/talented NYC kids cannot afford to attend Trinity, and financial aid - even if it were strictly merit-based - could not remotely close that gap. Not to mention how many kids are admitted in kindergarten before anybody has a good idea how smart they are.

You can certainly argue that Trinity will offer a better education than Bronx Science, but the idea that a typical Trinity graduate is *smarter* than a typical Bronx Science graduate is bananas.

His mother is Bollywood royalty, his dad is a tenured Ivy professor, and he was married on a stunning familial estate, if I recall correctly.

You know brown people can have money too?

And Cuomo's dad was super politically connected (he wasn't governor yet but he was very active in government on his way to becoming governor) yet all he could do was get his son into Fordham? Cornell was too much work for him?

Fordham was the place to be if you wanted to enter the NY Catholic political establishment. If he put black as his race he’d have gone to Princeton if he wanted. He had the integrity to be honest.

Covering up nursing home deaths? Sexual harassment? I agree he has done a lot of good things, but he is far from a saint.

Every sexual harassment allegation was dismissed in court. There was no there there.

I'm a Dem who will likely actually vote for him because I don't like Mamdani. But I can also admit the truth. He is no saint. Call a spade a spade.

No one is saying he’s a saint. He is a far more honest, respectable, wholesome, and charming man than Mamdani.

i mean, does it matter?

crazy people (who i am worried about) scream at me and my kids every day on our walk to school. which sounds like a sentence that 6 years ago I'd think was made up as a gop talking point and fake but is actually real. And they need help. Mamdani is going to do what? Not only has he never had a job and wouldn't know how to begin to get enough people on side to make policy, but he lives in cloud cuckoo land where mental health and homelessness is something to have less involvement with not more. But it's actually super not ok as a situation for anyone with a soul.

I don’t totally disagree but holy crap, his speech yesterday was presidential. You can’t deny that there are people who are magnetic. He is one of them

oh i dont deny that but magnetic isn't enough. I dont care about magnetic. I care about someone doing the hard work of making change. I know how he can be magnetic bc it's much easier to do that than be capable.

also that speech yesterday was just borrowed emotional equity from islamaphobia that hasn't been a major issue for 10 years. NYC has much much much bigger issues than islamaphobia right now. go cry about something that's affecting all of us now.

I completely agree. This is why I’m voting for Cuomo. But one can vote for Cuomo and also admit he is also a flawed candidate. It won’t kill you. This Trumpy mentality that you have to be all in for the person you support and go through mental gymnastics to totally deny their obvious flaws is not ok. This goes for both sides here - those supporting Cuomo who deny his flaws and those supporting Mamdani who deny his.

Ultimately there are limited choices and it is ok to say you are choosing the least bad. I can sleep at night knowing this. I am concerned there are many people who can’t.

I don’t even care really any more.

We’re going to give nyc to a person who has never had a job bc cuomo isn’t a saint? Come on. Who cares if either are nepo, I care that they have had some employ in their past
