| Changed my diet and restricted calories based to get a deficit. Stopped drinking beer for about 2 months now, there are occasional hard liquor drinks, and when I mean occasional, it's far less than weekly. Granted I'm not getting as much exercise as before, I thought the calorie reduction and beer reduction would help me lose some of my beer gut. What am I doing wrong? Male 40s. |
You probably just need to lose more weight. Get more aerobic exercise if you can. |
| Belly fat is the last to go. You need to lose all the extra weight first. Think what is the lower end of normal weight for your gender and height. At that weight you will start losing your belly. You cannot spot reduce fat. |
| How old are you? Look at your parents. You may never completely be able to lose some belly fat after a certain age. This is why god invented liposuction. |
| It can be a sign of insulin resistance. Consider intermittent fasting or at least try limiting yourself to two meals a day with no snacking. |
Yup, age and food! Basically have to be starving or carb free to have no gut after a certain age! Consider if it is worth it if you are healthy and don't want to exhausted from extremely low carb diet and little food. Was watching a documentary about a tribe somewhere in Amazon, and they were lean but didn't eat much and spent a lot of time sleeping that was pretty much it. The reporter who lived with them commented about how he was bored and exhausted.... |
You can't do lipo on visceral fat, which is what a beer belly is. |
My brother has done this his entire adult life. He eats a large breakfast and a large dinner, about 12 hours apart. No snacking. He says he is never hungry. Since he works 2nd shirt 3-11, he eats breakfast at noon and dinner at midnight. Everyone of course adjusts to their own work schedule. He has never gained any weight , unlike us siblings who have gained 25-40 pounds in our late -forties. |

+1 my DH has lost something like 50lbs. He's lean (and tall.. over 6'), BUT, he still has a bit of a gut. It's the visceral fat. There is hardly any fat I can grab on his gut, but he still has a bit of a paunch. |
| unfortunately the beer gut I feel is also genetic. |
| Most people vastly overestimate how many calories that need and wildly underestimate how many calories they consume. I get that you're restricting cals, good. You probably need more exercise now too. Getting rid of weight is HARD. Remember, 1lbs is about 3500 calories, so even if you cut 500 calories per day it can take one week just to lose 1 lbs. It can take quite a long time to lose 20 lbs. Slow steady progress OP. |
This is so true. Since starting to use a calorie counting app, I’m amazed at how quickly I can reach my calorie limit for the day. We really don’t realize how many calories we consume in a day until we start tracking them! |

NP.
I am usually at my max colorizes count by lunch. It is amazing how even "healthy food" calories add up. Yes, I am always hungry. Andi I work out every day, 2x per day on the weekends. I am still 15 pounds overweight. The weight just won't.go.away. |

it's all belly weight. |
