GA is the new A league

Starting a new thread with a different premise than the other thread on the board.

GA formed from top notch former DA clubs. DA was better than ECNL. Being a smaller more exclusive 60 club league than the ECNL gives GA a better chance to be the top league. That seems to be the case regionally at least. ECNL is too big and so will always have poor quality clubs to deal with in each division. The best players will gravitate towards the smaller quality league with the US Soccer connections and more professional standards such as 10 month development program.

DA was at no point better than ECNL. perhaps even the first year. Now with the dregs that are left sans Tophat, it's a B league at best. So many low quality clubs added and the level of competition was already bad the last 2 years. But I understand in times of fear like now we all cling to false hope especially when children are involved. Cheers!

For VA the 8th-12th grade line up looks like this:

FCV > McLean
Arlington > BRYC or VDA
Metro U > Loudoun

Speaking of dregs what will ECNL do with all of the low quality clubs like Loudoun? It drags down the league quality. They have been bad the last 40 years.

Seems as though COVID may take care of Loudoun for them. Word is that if soccer can’t restart before next spring, they will need to declare bankruptcy given debt levels. Wonder if FCV or Metro would gain the most from the fallout.

Loudoun has a huge fixed cost structure. They can furlough their 100 coaches to save cash but the soccer only facilities they own is a problem. The letter to parents was a warning sign of trouble to come.

We won’t move to ECNL because DD wants to play club soccer in the spring. No travel soccer in the spring is a non-starter for us with ECNL.

MU is not better than Loudoun. But, hey, lets have them play and find out. Across all ages.
