Post-DA future - Boys

Anonymous
Because the main thread is getting too confusing between boys and girls team, this is a thread to discuss future developments on the boys' side.

I think Bethesda will go to EDP. Not sure about Arlington. Not sure if Baltimore Armour would be willing to join Baltimore Celtic in ECNL (do the club administrators get along?)

I wonder what sort of roster changes we'll see at some clubs. For example on our DA team there are a few boys who travel > one hour to practice each day in large part because "it's the D.A."

With the loss of that brand, I'm not sure if they'll continue to stay at the club or return to a local side closer and easier for commuting.

I know people doing this with 10/11 year olds because they wanted to be in the "DA pipeline"

After 6 months-1 year of nobody playing soccer. With kids physically developing at different rates. With kids training and practicing at different rates. With kids emotionally all over the board.

Tryouts and rosters are an open book. There will need to be a major reset. Nobody should be granted a spot merely because they were on such and such team before.

It will be good for the sport to shed the wheat from the shaft. Too many resting on their laurels with their civil service protection getting passed on while daddy kisses *ss year to year.

I want to know if they will go back to age groupings by school year so a Sept 1 cutoff or back to Aug 1. I think a big push for calendar year was for the DA program.

It was. We were going to have all of these International stars and needed to align

There is no reason for armour to exist. They could simply split players between pipeline and sac.

Can VDA exist after this? I'm not sure about this so be gentle...VDA only exist because of agreements they made with other clubs, correct? The get their field space from PWSI and VSA, correct? So if the DA goes down, they would lose their field space and infrastructure?

VSA, VDA and PWSI (possibly other clubs as well) should combine into one giant club. Right now they have to pay for technical and admin staff for these seperate organizations and that is not good in the current environment. I'm not trying to pick on these three organizations, they already work together so they make a good example. But this could lead to large consolidation efforts between any number of clubs to streamline and cut costs. Other area's around the country have mega clubs with dozens of regional teams and one or two elite teams at the top for every age group, that model could work well here too.

That is a good and separate point, the same as Armour. But VDA presumably will continue to exist for ECNL, so why not keep infrastructure and principles together for boys side?

Here's a pretty good local EDP division for boys teams : Bethesda, SAC Premier Blue, Pipeline, Baltimore Union, Achilles, Total Futbol, VDA, Arlington, Alexandria, SYC.

The great thing about EDP is that a really good team from an otherwise OK club can be in a top division. None of this nonsense where teams are in top divisions merely because they belong to a strong club and good teams excluded merely because other club teams are viewed as weaker.

Why would you think this? DA/US Soccer didn’t provide field space or infrastructure. VDA already exists in ECNL on the girls side - the two clubs share resources on the girls side already.

I think the ex-DA in that group would want to keep it a bit more elite than that, maybe 6 of those and maybe Richmond and a PA team.

You can see that there are 10 or more very strong teams in the area and this list didn't include Calverton Cerritos or Potomac and maybe a few others. Why in the world does Rochmond need to get involved or even a Philly team. There's plenty of competition right here. You can play Richmond in Jeff Cup and Philly/NJ teams in EDP Cup.

Some parents like the idea of exposure to Richmond and PA despite the travel (I'm not one of them fwiw). Also some clubs, like Achilles for example, might not be able to field a competitive team at every age group.
