You can see that there are 10 or more very strong teams in the area and this list didn't include Calverton Cerritos or Potomac and maybe a few others. Why in the world does Rochmond need to get involved or even a Philly team. There's plenty of competition right here. You can play Richmond in Jeff Cup and Philly/NJ teams in EDP Cup.

Some parents like the idea of exposure to Richmond and PA despite the travel (I'm not one of them fwiw). Also some clubs, like Achilles for example, might not be able to field a competitive team at every age group.

This is why us parents ruin everything. There is no benefit for the kids to drive to PA to play whoever when Potomac (just grabbing a neutrally located competitive team) is just as competitive. It's just so parents can go to work and tell their coworker that their kid played whoever up in Philly. Just dumb. Or same with Richmond, so we can sit on 95 for 3 hours.

Every Club, event the big ones have weaker age groups. It should not be based on the "Club". It should be the 'team' and pro/rel helps with this.

How would this work for the high school age groups since MD does high school in the fall but VA is in the spring? Would these clubs continue to play year round (so they would still skip high school soccer?)

Yes, to be clear, it would vary year to year based on how good the actual team is, not what the club reputation is. So Cerritos, Herndon, SYA, Brausa and others with top teams in particular years would all be able to have top division teams for appropriate years. That is exactly what makes EDP attractive. Less of the walled garden nonsense, which ultimately makes everything inside the garden weaker.

And this is what tournaments are for. Great teams in PA and NC and in other parts of VA but no reason to be in a regular league with them with so much talent right here.

NP. While I believe it's going to be official soon, that's still a rumor. It's "source" is an article in The Athletic that quotes anonymous sources for it's information and says US Soccer could make the announcement as soon as today (4/15). Not confirmed.......just yet.

Philly Union is quite a bit better than Potomac.
