Grocery workers starting to die- we need a better system to get food to people

WIthout protective gear for the workers, all that is happening is they are exposed to asymptomatic carriers, and they themselves can be asymptomatic carriers.

We dropped the ball on masks so colossally.

All grocery stores should provide masks, turn their employees into shoppers (like instacart), and delivery persons and/or offer pickup.

Oh that is heartbreaking. You’re right we have to come up with something better.

My mom works at a grocery store and can't afford to quit due to requiring health insurance to cover her condition, a condition which puts her at higher risk for complications from COVID. And she just asked for a note from her DR to stay home a few weeks out of precaution and they said no. I am fairly furious at this state of affairs.

She needs to go to a different doctor

That is horrible. I get the impression people around here really dont understand how MOST people ACTUALLY have to live. Its not acceptable.

I really feel closing stores to the general public, providing safety gear and turning employees into order filling shoppers and delivery drivers would be a great option.

There would need to be a way to handle people who cant order online, and perhaps for some people a set recurring delivery would be a good option. You order once and then its set. THere must be a better way than killing people.

PP, it was the grocery store that said no, not the doctor, right?

I was in my local Giant in MoCo this weekend and they were not doing much in way of cleanliness. There were no wipes for the carts. Most employees did not have masks. And nothing was being done to help with social distancing (such as making aisles one way, having lines showing where to stand at check out, or restricting the number of people in the store). They did however have an announcement asking customers to stay 6 feet from other customers, which is impossible because I don't think the aisles are that wide.

Nope. It was her doctor. And for the record, the store is out of hand sanitizer for employees and has not provided masks.

Or how about your order online instead of complaining? The need for online shopping and closing stores would be in demand if people stop going all together

Not everyone has internet access, computers and extra $ in online banking. THATS WHY.

And that is why we need to really solve the problem here.

Ive been ordering online and already things are now backed up over a week. And its only the beginning.

Giant in Gaithersburg (Kentlands) was awful today. No protective equipment for customers or workers.

WF was much better. Gloves and hand sanitizer out for everyone. All the workers I saw had masks and gloves.

There aren't enough delivery spots! People try to order online but are not able to!
