Public Trump Impeachment Hearing Mega Thread

She’s a good girl!! Many head pats coming her way.

None of the public hearings have been to the Republican advantage. Sadly, I'm not sure whether too many voters in swing states are really listening, and if they are, of really understanding. I greatly fear there is too much partisan overlay.

Huh, I remember all of you saying that impeachment would crash the economy.

The markets are predicting that this impeachment effort will be DOA when it gets to the Senate.

What will be fun, is when it reaches the Senate and McConnell decides the rules, he can make any trial as long or as short as he wants and the senators who are seeking the nomination for the presidential race will have to attend the trial even while they are in the midst of the campaign. Now that would be just like McConnell to do something like that given that he is a wily, shrewd politician.

In an impeachment trial, the rules are determined by simple majority. Romney plus vulnerable Republican senators will not allow Romney to push through rules that don't ensure a fair trial.

Vulnerability works both ways. They have to make a judgment as to whether the Republicans they need for reelection will go along with how they vote.

These hearings are taking place on weekdays so it is hardly likely that the average person is going to be watching. When they get home, it seems unlikely they would be spending their spare time watching what happened. This is quite apart from the fact that some of what is occurring would be of interest only political junkies.

We have all the funding we need out of Russia.’ I said, ‘Really?’ And he said, ‘Oh, yeah. We’ve got some guys that really, really love golf, and they’re really invested in our programs. We just go there all the time.’

Donald Junior spoke at a real estate investment conference in 2008 and said “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross section of a lot of our assets” and “we see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

This is because laws put in place in the past to help prevent money laundering in connection with criminal activity, terrorism, financial fraud, etc ended up NOT including real property, although that was considered at one time. So real estate is where bad actors stash their ill-gotten gains, including kleptocrats from the former USSR. Just following the rule of Willie Sutton.

I think this is more likely the leverage than any "pee pee" tape.

Republican Senators are screwed. They all know he is guilty of all of this and much more. When it gets to the Senate, they can't credibly defend the actions of Trump, Giuliani, Mulvaney, Sondland, et al, but Trump has made it clear that he will not tolerate any Republican taking the position that what he did was improper but does not rise to impeachable. Even if they vote against removing him from office, he will support the primary opponents of any Republicans who say he acted improperly.

Then there are 13.1 million “political junkies.”

Yep, unless he is taken out, he will go against any and all of them.

They won't criticize much and they won't remove him. Get prepared for it. I wish it weren't so, but I think this is where we are headed. I just hope people are paying close enough attention to get it right on election day. And Moscow Mitch, etc. doesn't turn a blind eye to Vlad's meddling.

He turned a blind eye in 2016. There is no reason he won't again.

Agree Republicans won’t do anything. No way they turn on him unless something really is revealed.

I worry most Americans arent really paying attention and don’t really understand it. Or get the highlights from Fox and live in an alternative reality.

Let's see what Sondland remembers about his cell phone call.
