Walz vs. Vance: VP Debate Oct 1 2024

But I still don't find him likeable. He's like a well oiled lawyer.

He barely answered the question on whether Israel should fire a preemptive strike on Iran. Instead, he ran out the clock thanking the sponsors and telling his long personal bio. He ended by saying for a few seconds at the end that Israel should do what they think is right. He had zero clue how to answer, and no substance to his answer. He's just a shiny suit.

Yes he did. He said that is Israel's decision.

Vance won hands down. Not even close, not debatable.

Vance delivered some incredibly unique twists on a handful of the Republican ticket’s unpopular positions tonight. He described his anti-abortion position as a desire “to make it easier for moms to have babies.” On Trump’s failure to repeal Obamacare, Vance praised the former president for leaving health-care options in place for Americans. Asked about the Jan. 6 riot, he praised Trump for supposedly peacefully departing from the White House on Jan. 20.

Listening to CNN, they're purposely lowering the bar which they don't need to do. Walz gave a strong performance and was far more genuine than Vance. CNN is focused on the surface skills each person demonstrated--not the substance of what was being said.

Wow the DAR snobs out in force tonight. I’m proud descendent of 19th and 20th century immigrants who came to a country where previous arrivals had built something, and who helped to build something even better, working in factories and building America’s bridges and roads to create the world’s greatest economy.

That's cool, doesn't mean we are at our foundation a nation of immigrants and should allow for mass immigration now. None of this means that immigration never happened. Just means that plenty of us are not immigrants or descendant from immigrants, and do not have warm fuzzy feeling about immigration.

Why won't you answer which tribal nation you belong to?

One, I don't have to answer any of your questions, and two, I am talking about the nation and the establishment of a government, not simply land.

Yeah so your ancestors came over here on a boat some time after the 16th century, just like most of American's ancestors did.

Guess what, there were already nations here across the North American continent.

Her ancestors murdered those people so they don't count.

Yes, the ones that came in the 1600s (not 16th century) formed the nation and government of the USA. Yes, including the slaves. They and their their descendants are not immigrants.

1600s is after the 16th century, no?

And did they come over on a boat? And did they establish residence in a place which was not the country of their birth? Then they immigrated. Learn your vocabulary.

Yeah, we know. Immigration starts the minute after your immigrant ancestor arrived.

My people were here at the founding, so no immigrants in my family tree.

Unless your ancestors were native american, they were not here at the founding, they were the first violent conquerors. And even the native american tribes migrated from other areas at some point in the distant past.

Your premise is faulty.

Yes, the founding was in part violent, but it happened. There was a time when the U.S. existed and a time when it didn't. Many of us, our ancestors were here at the founding. We were never immigrants.

Vance / Walz 2024!

Harris and Trump are complete idiots compared to these two. Love this debate but hate that we’re saddled between voting for the two gaslighting, intellectual lightweights who are running for president.

It is.

He passed on a lot of questions and lied on the rest. The revisionist history of the Trump years, particularly on the ACA were simply galling. His response on abortion was just a flat out lie.

I can’t wait for the TikTok and Instagram memes.

Also "I'm friends with school shooters". Wtf

Whoa, I missed that one!

Yeah come on what's this story or was this another "misspeak?"

He was talking about school shooting VICTIMS but he missed a word in thar sentence.

We all knew what he meant. He was talking about meeting with parents of the Sandy Hook shooting. He has met with victims.

I would trust this man who makes normal wording mistakes on a national debate stage like most of us would over that smarmy snake-oil salesman who lied his way through the entire debate any day.

Dude is gaffe central. Not ready for prime time.

They didn't immigrate. They formed a country that did not exist beforehand.

I would debate you on that. Vance was repellent. And inauthentic. He's like the slimy guy who says relax. Eek.

Exactly. What happened to the melting pot? Our diversity is our strength. These fools are just swallowing the GOP fear-pie.

There is no melting pot. Where are people blending together? It is ok to admit immigrants come to advanced the interests of their own families, not the nation as a whole. Remember, we are always told they are so "family oriented".

What? Do you think most Americans are descendants of only one ethnicity?? Most of us are mongrels. I am. My spouse is. Even Donald Trump is!

My 60ish coworker was lamenting the Czech neighborhood that used to be in our city and said "I don't know what happened to all those people. I guess they moved to the suburbs or something" and I said "They mixed with everyone else! Do you know how many 1/4 Czech people are out there? Like myself?"
They got no government assistance. That's the difference people care about.

My great-grandparents got no government assistance and they lived squalid lives. 10 people in a tiny 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom house. Lots of drinking and probably not a little bit of violence. Would have been greatly helped by some government assistance.

Yeah my dad used to point out how his mom didn’t have ESL in school after she arrived, and then I pointed out that she dropped out of school at 13 to work in a sweat shop, so maybe ESL would have been a great thing for her. People that romanticize the immigrant history are usually not thinking about the whole experience.

Can the people arguing about whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower start their own thread?!

What debate were you watching?
The one where Vance was handsome and sexy?
Please come back to reality.
Walz did great, and delivered an unrecoverable knock out.
