I mean I've given several virtual presentations to large audiences (not at this scale obviously), and presenters always get on at least 30 minutes early to do mic checks, adjust equipment if/as necessary, etc.

I don't know who was working the technical part of the interview. You think mics get tests run on them all the time? Or do they take a new one out of the box and assume it hits all the frequencies correctly? Or just grab whatever is lying around? Don't know. Don't really care.

Exactly. You prepare. You have people ready to fix any equipment issues. Not this slapdash sh**show that Trump and Elon decided to put on. It tells you a lot about who they are, that they didn't bother with any of the prep that would have made this thing run thmoothly.
