All too common these days. Hopefully she uses this as a platform to raise awareness for 15.24 meter parasites.

I mean, that's about the only thing that could legitimately require a 10-14-day hospital stay.

I have a hunch that royals are welcome to stay in the hospital, and pampered there, for much longer than us American plebes. But maybe a Brit who uses private healthcare services across the pond can weigh in.

This is so stupid. Royals can, and have, set up entire hospital suites in their giant palaces and castles. The only reason she's in that long, assuming they're not lying, is because she needs ICU access.

Well sure but in terms of staying after the original crisis I bet that she will stay longer than your typical American could, since we tend to be shooed out of hospitals as soon as possible due to insurance.

She has three young children at home, and she has a history of staying at the hospital only briefly after her births (when one might really want a few days to relax without having to deal with another toddler). She's not going to camp out at the hospital for 10-14 days unless it's necessary.

Have you ever had a lengthy hospital stay? It's not a hotel. It's uncomfortable, people are constantly waking you, the food is bad, you are at a huge risk for infection. There isn't some secret tier of nice hospital that gets rich people out of this, and even if there was it would be for plastic surgery, not bowel stuff which this clinic specializes in.

No idea about Kate or Great Britain, but many hospitals in the US do have areas set aside for VIPs that could have different procedures/times for checking vitals, conducting rounds, etc.

And that’s all good, but hospital germs don’t necessarily obey the same rules. So even if you’re super rich, it’s never the best place to hang out longer than medically necessary.

Once was there for 14 days because my Crohn’s got bad and made several perforations in my large and small intestines. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. But here were some of the reasons for that: hearing other patients throw up in hallway, nurses being mean (most were amazing but you know how it is), getting woken up at 4AM because that’s when they have to take blood so they get that data before doctors make their rounds, and bad food. I imagine Kate won’t have to deal with those things. And I think I left too early. Going home was hard. I still struggled to eat and just had less help than I did at the hospital, and I almost had to go back anyway. If it had been a more pleasant experience and I didn’t have to worry about costs I definitely would have stayed longer, which is why I don’t think you can do an apples to apples comparison between Kate’s experience and mine.

Um, yes, yes there is a not so secret tier of nice hospital that gets rich people out of all of that stuff. Sure, they might wake someone for medical reasons to check vitals but I’m sure if Jeff Bezos is in the hospital those checks are all coordinated and done more thoughtfully than the average person.

Ok but the London Clinic 1) isn't that and 2) she could easily have this setup at home.

None of us really knows what is going on, but I (a different PP) am just saying that a non-wealthy American can’t estimate the appropriate length of a hospital stay for a literal princess based on experience in an American hospital using regular old American health insurance. My hospital stay was, all things considered, pretty good (I didn’t have to share a room!) but there is no way I got princess treatment.

Also, I had another abdominal surgery that required just a 5 day stay, and we had our kids stay at their grandparents house because I couldn’t have them messing with my stomach. It takes so long to recover from major abdominal surgery and being with my kids wasn’t a priority because I didn’t want to have to re-start the healing process. Hopefully Kate is getting something laparoscopic though.

DP. But rich people can and do still have the same risk of getting infections like MRSA etc at a hospital that others have. A few years ago rose O’Donnell got really sick from a staph infection she got at one. Kate wouldn’t have to be with her kids because huge house, full-time staff and her kids are not babies. The length of stay isn’t simply fully determined by insurance which everyone understands would not be an issue for her.

Their current home has just 4 bedrooms. Even the nanny had to live out.

I just hope she's not reading the news or on social media. She should not have to ever see the cruel things people say. Even here, on this website, people are super cruel.

They still have the other homes though. She could stay at Kensington Palace and have access to the doctors in London. She is in the hospital because she needs to be.

Anyway, it was announced that Christian left the firm in 2021, which would have quieted any of this discussion at the time. But if he’s accompanying William to visit Kate on a work day, obviously he’s back in the fold. Shady!
