The Golden Bachelor

I would love to see her pull back her hair or part it on the side, and show some zest and spunky personality. So far, she's only been shown as a demure, totally-into-Gerry personality. Surely there is more to her than just being ga-ga for Gerry! We need to see something about her life/personality outside of the show.

I think that's what people on this thread are reacting to -- (1) bad hair, and (2) absence of an independent/strong/funny personal story.

Let's see what the producers show us.

I don't care about her hair, I agree she has no personality other than "I'm desperate for a man"

Agreed, but I've come around to believing that's what Gerry wants. Hell make the decision that's right for him.

Nonetheless, I find her tedious and simple.

Agree that Joan will be the Golden Bachelorette. She is beautiful and yes a little boring, but she and Nancy have the most general appeal. Susan is too Jersey for many people’s taste. Ellen has that horrible accent that is hard to listen to. Sandra is too vulgar.

I think almost any of them would be a better GB than Joan.
Edith is gorgeous. April is sexy and quirky. Natascha is hilarious.
I can see Susan being too Jersey and Sandra being too vulgar, though they're both confident and funny. Ellen would be lovely but I think casting would be very difficult because she gives off an older vibe than the rest of them.
If they're going for pleasant and kind of bland white lady, they might as well go with Nancy, whose face moves normally and who seems very warm and sweet.

Ultimately though, Gerry is going to pick Theresa, which sets Leslie up to be the GB. They'll be able to lower the age range for men because she's one of the youngest women and hot. Faith would also be fine but she's very limited by the dead horse thing.

I hate to tell you though that the producers have said that they're not planning to do any more "golden" versions of the show.

What???!!! Where did you read they are not doing any more Goldens? This is the biggest hit they’ve had!

+1 She's got that 'helpless' schtick I find very annoying and does seem like she's been sheltered in the suburbs for far too long. I have my fingers crossed it's the edit and she'll prove more interesting with more screen time. I mean maybe?

Having double bachelorettes has been shown to be a disaster for the women. It puts the power in the men's hands because they get to choose, rather than having just one lead who has to be the focus of desire.

Rachel (dual bachelorettes) said she now reslizes that a lot of her insecurities during the season were fueled by the men getting to choose or nit choose her over Gabby Windey).

Nick Viall has even disclosed that production purposely avoids having any god looking women on the crew when men are contestants so that they only focus on the lead as their ideal. Vice versa for bachelor seasons. The idea is to make sure the contestants are focussed on ONE lead as the goal.)

Joan seems like she could handle it, but doubt Leslie could.

I don't know what Leslie's relationship issues are, but April could give Leslie a run fir her money on dysfunctional attention seeking and using sex to get it.

What's funny is that April's been outspoken on podcasts that Gerry is a drip, wouldn't give her attention, isn't what he's cracked up to be. She puts Gerry down for saying he liked the mysic of Dean Martin while her favorites are mych more current like Harry Styles. Saying or implying aying that she has a young fresh mindset and Gerry is too old and boring.

Maybe April is trying hust a but too hard to convince us and herself that she isn't old. She spent the better part of her life being Framkie Valli's sex toy, but now she wants us to believe that she doesn't know whi Dean Martin is and Harry Styles is her jam. Right.

I like her, just find her quite boring. I noticed the other ladies don’t seem to interact with her posts, which is telling I think.

I'm pretty sure all the other women her age were gone sooner. It would make sense that the younger ones would be tighter. It would also make sense for the others to engage with her less if she was the winner and they were trying to avoid spoiling things.

+1. That was my immediate thought--the other ladies don't engage with Theresa because they don't want to spoil things.

Theresa hasn't shown us much yet. But she was (is?) in "securities" (whatever that means) so presumably she held down a responsible job for a long time. Let's see how Costa Rica goes.

They keep saying this is gonna have an ending like no other before. I think he’s gonna have a change of heart and ask if he can choose Faith after all and they will bring her back. T

Wait, what, April was Frankie Valli's sex toy? I had to google that, and you're right. If you believe April, who also faked a sprained ankle on the show. https://parade.com/tv/april-kirkwood-affair-frankie-valli-golden-bachelor

That link reminds us that she hates growing old, and the try-hard to stay young persona is a little grating. As are her facial fillers etc, although those could presumably calm down with time. She also has two masters degrees, go figure.

Still, I don't know if she'd attract the broad viewership of a Joan or even a Leslie. And the producers will be all about viewership. That's why they went, for the first bachelor, with a safe guy who was married for 40+ years then widowed. They're not looking for women with relationship issues (what if one of Leslie's exes come out of the woodwork?) or who are uncomfortable with their age because they were going for age-positive. Neither April nor Leslie seems to be good at long-term relationships. But Joan or one of the others do.

I'm overthinking this. I need to go do something productive.

Ok I’ve just watched the trailers again. The editing is very deceptive. I posted upthread that Gerry appears to be telling Theresa his feelings changed, but you can’t actually see who he’s talking to. The clip of him talking is spliced with a clip of Theresa crying during the Kathy fight. Unfortunately I believe he is in fact talking to Leslie. There is a clip of Ellen crying but it’s in fact Leslie’s voice saying “you made me believe you’d picked me.” So, I think Gerry initially believes it’s Leslie but changes his mind after the fantasy suite night with Theresa, and confabbing with his daughters and granddaughters, and picks T instead. That’s fine, Leslie can still find a better fit for her, but what a tough experience.

And I think he insists on telling her in her room to spare her the embarrassment of the final rose ceremony, which then focuses entirely on Theresa.

That's quality sleuthing, pp. It's what I come to DCUM for.

This is how the GB ends:

Gerry is not engaged and picks neither of the two finalists. Instead, Joan comes back into the picture. As usual, Gerry starts crying and says that when she left, there were, "a lot of open questions" they need to figure out. Turns out they are still dating and "building a relationship".

They already said something wild will happen at the end so this is it.

And this is the only Bachelor that I can remember where Reality Steve did not name the winner. They probably paid him off so he wouldn't.
