I think you area pretty wrong on the facts:

1) Dems usually run on MORE progressive platforms than they actually enact. Look at Bill Clinton, Obama etc. They talked a much bigger talk than what they did. You already saw that Terry is a moderate dem - and based on his age - you can feel confident he’s not changed much.

2) Republicans are not ‘law and order’. They are themselves quite criminal - it’s why many people in Trump’s orbit have landed themselves in prison (still or, at least until they were pardoned). I promise you that criminality at the top is much more serious a crime and corrosive to the country than some homeless people. If your issue is homelessness, the solution is to get those people into shelters…things that Ds support. You can’t just ‘disappear’ them and Republicans do nothing to assist with the the actual problem.

But look at Biden - ran as a moderate and now it's spend $1.9 trillion earlier on pandemic relief (ok maybe we needed that one to prevent recession) and oh here's another 1.9trill on unnecessary crap like preK or paid leave or whatever. I mean I know people need it but I don't think it's up to me or government to provide it - that's what employers need to be doing. I get McA is less progressive than that - his $15 min wage plan is raise it by 2024, that's hardly progressive. IDK if I worry that much about criminality at the top - IDK how much that affects me if they're moving money around/trading/tax evading to help their families. It affects us more when there are threats on retail centers all weekends or a guy gets killed at an ATM in Falls Church at 6 am - GOP is much more - throw those criminals in jail and lose the key, which I agree with because I think it deters crime. Democrats generally (IDK about McA) are more about - oh these communities have hard lives, here are all the mitigating factors why they did it, they won't do it again, let them out . . . .

Yikes - you don’t think it matters if the leaders of your state or nation are stealing from people, grifting, violating securities laws, etc etc. Golly, that is quite disturbing. Why should some people be allowed to violate the law and others no? If you really feel that way, I am not sure we’re going to see eye to eye.

While I don't WANT any leader to be insider trading or tax evading, it doesn't threaten security. So day to day yes I'm MUCH less concerned about it than street crime. I know people love to spin it as you're picking on communities of color etc. But if communities of color were insider trading that wouldn't affect my or anyone's physical security either; when they are holding up people at ATMs, that's a potential physical harm right there.

I wish it were that simple. Alas it is not. The criminality at the top can and does have serious national security concerns wrt our relationships w/ Russia, China etc. Not sure if you missed it, but there was serious concern w/ Trump’s dealings w/ Russia and the leverage Russia may have had over him due to the financial arrangements.

It may not be quite as visible to you, but it is certainly the case that criminality at the top leaves you vulnerable. Maybe less so from a random gunshot but more so for international attacks and war which won’t always look like bullets but can destroy the country nonetheless.

Let alone that you should really think about the effect it has on the population to watch the people at the top repeatedly break the law. You think that makes it MORE likely for others to obey the law? PRobably not.

I get it - I'm not saying insider trading/financial crime is victim-less. But day to day, I'm not thinking about it as I'm contemplating running out to the grocery store at 10 pm and will I feel ok loading groceries in the parking lot at that hour and maybe I shouldn't go, but I have the time/energy right now and won't have to then worry about then going out on the weekend when stores will be crowded and it'll take more time. To me that kind of crime matters A LOT more. YMMV.

This is a state wide election. This is not a national or federal election. Virginians want people from the other 49 states to but out! Off topic - but does McAuliffe have presidential chances? He does seem to be a moderate Dem and often southern state candidates have more nationwide appeal. Is there anything disqualifying about him? Didn't live here during his first term so IDK what the big controversies may have been.

That’s the thing. Like so many VA lame duck governors, there is no big deal from a governance standpoint. From the vantage point of a centrist northern Virginian, I want decent services, roads getting paved up here and not road to nowhere projects in non-trafficked areas, and the state staying out of my uterus. As someone originally from another state, Virginia has decent services, moderate taxes, and pretty moderate on social issues. We know McAullife does those things. Youngkin in a new model “Republican”, which means it’s just anti-science, anti-logic, not-actually-Conservative nonsense. Just like I voted for Biden, I wish the dems had come up with a better candidate, but it is what it is.

But on a Presidential front, he would be a no hoper. He’s tied to the worst of the Clintons behaviors, and he’s a hack. The VA candidate that could go far is Mark Warner.

She is a mother and has dealt with the grief of losing her daughter and granddaughters in a car accident.

She is strong, compassionate and very well informed in bothe business and politics in Virginia.

Her credentials are impressive. So is her character.

After hearing her speam, I believe she could one day be president.

Fact check: Virginia elected its first Black woman to the general assembly almost 40 years ago.
And immigrants from Jamaica can’t one day be President.

NoVa doesn't have decent services any longer. The public schools, in particular, are a debacle. I can't think of a single public school system with Arlington's wealth that's as consistently underwhelming as APS; FCPS is too big and inefficient, and controlled by wacky left-wing nutters; and LCPS is a case study in mediocrity and crisis mismanagement.

McAuliffe means four more years of this. Youngkin at least has the potential to shake things up and focus on quality academics again.
