| PSA to all families who lotteried for ITS, they just sent out an email changing the first day of school from August 31 to August 26. Really annoying to have changes made so late in the year after camps are already paid for. |
| Man I couldn’t find a camp that worked for us so I’m happy to have them start a few days earlier!! |
| I'm super annoyed. I'm going to have to eat an Airbnb deposit. WTF announcing this the day after the lottery? |

Really you would have changed your enrollment over a few days??? Most Airbnb's offer refunds this far out but you could take the days off and just deal with starting out the year with 3 unexcused absentees. If you are keeping other schools on your wait list most Charters don't generally make there Calendars until after DCPS is finalized as many tend to generally follow DCPS. So, you probably want to keep your plans flexible for a while. |
most give a refund this far out. |
|
Basically they did a crap job planning the calendar and need to fix it. No apology.
Oh and also there will be half days once a month and maaaaybe childcare. Maybe not. |
I am worried they would give away our spot if we missed the first three days. |
So... are you just lotterying or already in the school? You don't get to be pissed about this unless you are already enrolled. |
Already in. Trying to reshuffle some flights and camps and I am finding many do not give a full refund. |
In 18-19 the calendar came out in late April. Last year, it came out in early June. So early March is good. Yeah, it’s frustrating that the first day moved. But DCPS keeps changing their breaks and calendar priorities, so I get that it’s hard to 1) mostly follow DCPS and 2) try to make sure the calendar is meeting the needs of the school’s stakeholders. |
Just miss school. Especially if you are known to them, they won’t give away your spot. Tell them what’s going on, take the unexcused absences and move on with your life. |
I agree it’s super annoying. Starting school on a Wednesday is super inconvenient to working families. No camps will take them for 2 days, so either parents will have to take those days off or pay for a full week of camp and use only 2 days. I am also frustrated that they are having a February break AND an Inauguration Day break when DCPS is just skipping Feb break next year so there will be no camps open besides maybe the Y and also half days are the WORST. But all that said, if I’d already made my non-refundable vacation plans I guess my kid would just be missing the first 3 days of school. But if I’d already |
All the during school day events are all super inconvenient to working families. We all strike a balance. |
| Ugh what? I literally just book a very expensive, non. Refundable camp for that week today.-current ITDS fam |
