Goodness, my impression is that Martha Holley-Miers and the IFA have done an admirable job mediating the half-day issue, considering that the administration says this change is necessary to improve teaching, while some parents are outraged about it and other parents are not outraged at all and support the school's decision.
It seems you are blaming the IFA for not convincing the administration to do what you want it to do, even though Martha does not have the power to overrule the administration, nor is your opinion universally held by other parents. The administration has said that aftercare will be provided. Our aftercare provider, the Y, does a fine job. It covers teacher work days and school breaks and its fees are extremely reasonable. Not donating to the IFA only hurts your children, who benefit greatly from its community-building efforts. -Shawn Zeller |
Where did they say that aftercare will be provided? They said they are talking with the Y about it. I am optimistic that it will work out, but they have not sealed the deal yet. So don't get ahead of yourself. It is not about whether the teachers get PD. It is about the administration's willingness to impose a childcare hasslr on families. ITS already has a more difficult first week than most other schools, and they made it even worse because of their own stupid mistake. |
| These PPs need to find another school. They will never be happy. |
| We love ITS and having come from another school, its even more clear how much thought the administration and staff do give and care. I am not at all happy with 1/2 days personally, but if it helps my kids teachers plan for the classroom than go for it. We have found the school to be proactive, creative and the teachers really think outside of the box to make the school day engaging. No place is perfect, PP, so be sure and look at the whole picture. I am sure there is a ton going on behind the scenes, both with admin and the IFA that those of us who aren't involved simply have no clue about. |
Then we can all laugh when the new school admin is even worse. Schools don’t exist for you alone PP. |

As a parent at Inspired Teaching, I have to say that the change in first day of school was surprising and for many it poses a real challenge (booked camps or vacations). But the school administration said it would work with families who couldn't change their plans.
The Wednesday half day situation is NOT every Wednesday. It seems like some people are talking as if this would be EVERY Wednesday. The school administration has said these would be once a month. The school said it is working on after care coverage -- including looking at no-cost options. This is 5-6 months away. Additionally, the school administration is busy with contingency planning right now related to the coronavirus. |
They only made concessions after getting pushback. Their first move was to dump a big hassle on us and say they can't make any promises about aftercare. Not very nice. This school is premised on the assumption that everyone has plenty of time and money for childcare. |
Ok... it sounds like you just need (want?) to be mad about it and that’s your right. If you need to stay mad until the administration does something to change it (apologize, etc) rather than being able to make your own peace with it, it’s definitely a lot of negativity to keep going for something that isnt going to change. |
I am neither a board member or staff member. I am a parent that realizes changing 1 date is not the same thing as publishing then changing an entire school years calendar of 180+ days. They school made a mistake with the start date. They explained the mistake and said they would work with families who made plans that are impacted. So, either talk to them and miss or don't miss the 3days. Either way move on. Again not staff or board member or even PTO / ifa or whatever it's called. Just a reasonable parent who knows there are way bigger issues to spend energy on . |
