What is the earliest age you would buy condoms for your son?

My DS has been dating a girl for almost a year. I know they are considering it. I have been advising against it happening yet, and I have been thwarting opportunity, but I am a realist.

Then buy them now. Put them in the bathroom where he'll see them.

Yeah, like yesterday in your case. Age doesn’t matter.

I have two boys and a girl.
Dw and I keep condoms in every bathroom in our home! My kids are 19,21 and 14.

I didn’t realize parents ever bought condoms for their kids. Part of having sex was awkwardly going to buy condoms. We did it and were teen girls. No one got them from parents.

But if you are planning on it, then the bathroom idea that PP had sounds like a good one. I guess DH and I will have to have this discussion.

I have a 13 year old, so it isn’t an issue yet, but he knows there is an open box of condoms in the medicine cabinet beside the soap and tampons and zit cream. I restock them all as needed.

Is there some reason your kid can’t walk into CVS and buy his own?

+1. Planning to do the same when my kids are teenagers. I mentioned this in another thread, but my dad kept "his" condoms in the upstairs linen closet for years when my brother and I were teens. We'd help ourselves as needed. Many years later, we found out our dad had gotten a vasectomy when we were toddlers. I am being serious when I say I never had sex without a condom until I was engaged, not even once (I was also on the Pill from age 14 because I had terrible periods but also because my mom did NOT play).

I never had money as a teen and it’s embarrassing for teens. I remember my embarrassment over tampons even. You don’t want that to be the reason they don’t use them.

A boyfriends mom used to buy them for him and put a note “use these every time you don’t want a pregnancy” hah

OP here, answering the question: Is there some reason your kid can’t walk into CVS and buy his own?

I’m female and I never even thought to buy condoms or provide my daughter. D’oh. I don’t know why that never occurred to me. I planned on getting and IUD or such for dd when she was old enough. But yes, STDs are a thing too. For both genders.

I only slept with 2 guys. The first was a virgin and the second was the guy I married. I think dh and I used condoms until marriage (married 9 years so it’s hard to remember). I never used birth control because I had bad issues with it and was later somewhat infertile.

Going to buy condoms for the first time is a rite of passage for every teen boy. I remember it well even 30 years later. He won’t die of embarrassment. Frankly it would have been FAR more mortifying if my mom had bought them for me.

You do realize that condoms basically ensure they will get pregnant, right?
