Man asked woman to leash her dog in a public park -- she called the police on him

I feel like this woman would have gone bananas with *anyone* who criticized her for letting her dog run unleashed. Man, woman, child, black, white or whatever: her reaction would have been the same.

Some people are short-fused and defensive...especially in NYC.

So you think if a white man was asking her to leash her dog she would have called the cops and said and african american man is threatening her? She would have said a white male? Really?

Maybe not a White man. They are on the top of the food chain. She would do it with any other race, gender, age, species...

White women are complicit in the racism, privilege and entitlement of White men. Because these hos are sitting in the jacuzzi with them!

Let's examine this, shall we?

How was he clearly intimidating? Being black and alive?

As the video begins you see HER walking up to him, threatening HIM.

Yet, you sincerely believe it was HIM who was intimidating, and HER who was threatened?

And why should he have walked away?

Why is her right to peacefully flout the law more important than his to peacefully enjoy the park?

The dog was disturbing the birds, the very reason for this specific area of the park, and the reason leashes are required in this area. That is why it was important to him that she stop.

Why did she need to threaten him? Why did she need to walk up to him? Why didn't she just leash her dog and walk away? Why do you put the onus for letting it go on the black man? Why do you believe her rights supercede his?

I hope that you'll take your inability to answer these questions as a sign that you need to do some soul searching.

9 times out of 10, any adult scolding another adult for his or her behavior is attempting to be intimidating, even if the other adults is in the wrong.

9 times out of 10, any adult that is approaching another adult like Amy did to the birdwatcher... is not intimidated or feeling threatened.... even when the birdwatcher is black and male.

There isn't a leash law for children, so...

If someone's unleashed dog runs over to a treat from someone else, obviously the dog isn't well trained or obedient, like the owners of unleashed dogs ALWAYS claim THEIR dog is!

This is exactly right.

I hate people who run around with their dogs unleashed.

Leash your dog problem solved.

I'm grateful to have people who are confident enough to call out entitled individuals who destroy the commons through their own selfish behavior.

Thank you, Mr. Cooper!

She was in an area alone that no one else was in. That isn't entitled. If there were other people around, yes, but she was alone and he was no where near from the video. What is entitled is to post half of the video without showing the before or after to set her up.

Her abused by her dog was off leash. Probably pooping and peeing around that area. Disgusting. Glad he videotaped her. Glad she got fired for being racists.

Only racists are defending this woman.

I will go a step further. Leash your dog and pick up their poop.

I think she still would have gone bananas and escalated the situation. Absolutely.

Do you really think she would have smiled and said, “Whoops! My bad! Sorry” and leashed the dog without being defensive? No way.

Lots of people thrive on aggression. Some seek it out; others quickly engage and escalate. This is a personality trait/character flaw. It’s why we have anger management therapy.

Is she racist? Yep. But the encounter would have been very similar with anyone—including a white woman or a teenager.

Now you're just asking for too much. Can't you see how intimidating you're being! /s

Who are the racist apologists that are posting here? Why are they not congregating in big crowds without masks in their hick towns?

No it would not have. You're missing WHY this was so egregious. Sure, she would have thrown a hiss fit with anyone, but she escalated to a place where she put this man's LIFE in danger. She would not and could not have done that to a white person. THAT is what is disgusting. Without that element, this is just run of the mill asshole behavior.

I don’t understand why she didn’t leash the dog. It’s much more difficult to hold an excited dog by the collar then to just put him on a leash.

Because silly, she was in the process of showing that black man who was boss. If she did what he asked, she'd be essentially admitting that he had the right to say something, and that she was wrong. Can't have that.

Is there truth to what people are saying? Is this woman just nuts and not actually racist? Was she having a mental breakdown? Could this be her defense to engineer her future rehabilitation to her of her entitled life?

Well, then the only saving grace in this whole story is that she was not defecating in the Ramble. You never know what crazy people will do.

I’m guessing you’ve never seen white people go bananas at each other before? It happens. It escalates, sometimes they fight and pull hair, and sometimes they threaten to call the cops. Thanks to cell phones, it gets captured for the world to see.

I get that she made it racial. But I still think she would have gone bananas regardless, and she might have called the cops.

I am white. I was hit by a white woman on a bicycle. It was her fault (I was in my car stopped at a traffic light). She flipped out and threatened to call the cops. I actually did call the police because her bike damaged my car and I was worried that she might have hit her head. It wasn’t racial; she was just a lunatic. (She told the police officer that she was just upset because she was late for her therapy appointment.)
