They're moving. But then again, they are wearing pants.

Are these the ladies who got lashed in Iran for dancing to the "happy" song?

The better question is: what percentage of crime has been committed by niqabis?

How can they commit crimes when they can barely run away in those layers of cloth or even see through their face masks?

Hey - how about I pose THIS question:
What IF your daughter came home wearing one of these ridiculous costumes? I'm sure you'd be pleased she was taking up a cause!

niqab

burqa

My feelings are not a basis for sound public policy. I have no interest in reforming the world to be like my daughter. I don't want my daughter to look like you, either.

It's so barbaric to ask them to show their faces...

Outlawing niqab did not prevent the recent Paris attack. I don't see the point of outlawing it.

How does a person (regular citizen or police) identify or remember identifying characteristics of a woman or other person who only shows a pair of eyes?

when someone wears a niqab, they are not women, they are property.

they need to be free of the abuse that propagates something like this.

When someone says stupid things like that, they are just stupid.

In other news, no this did not happen in the Kingdom ....Tagline: you are not alone.

Women out: Ultra-Orthodox Jewish paper edits Merkel out of Paris march

A conservative Jewish newspaper edited a picture of world leaders rallying in anti-extremism solidarity in Paris last week, manipulating female politicians, including one of the most powerful people on the planet, Angela Merkel, out of the picture. The German Chancellor, along with the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, the EU's high representative for foreign affairs Federica Mogherini and Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt all vanished from the already famous photograph in the Israeli Haredi "HaMevaser" (The Announcer) paper.

What's it like being Muslim? Well, it's hard to find a decent halal pizza place and occasionally there is a hashtag calling for your genocide...

That's absurd. And sad.

And somewhat shocking. Do the ultra-orthodox Jews even know that there are women leaders?

Well, from what I read: "In the Israeli political parties that represent the ultra-Orthodox sector, women are explicitly banned from running for Knesset. In publications and advertisements that serve the sector, female images are completely absent, painting a visual picture of a world that contains only men and boys – and very occasionally, a prepubescent girl. Sometimes, astonishingly, they even refrain from printing women’s names, not just their photographs."

Interesting, never knew this. I guess to each, its own~

It sort of reminds me of the Star Wars Bar.

LOL!!!!

. I'm on the fence with burkas - I do support a woman's right to don it of her free will. I am.uncomfortable with how free that will is - like.some of these women on these old fashioned compounds in the US who finally escape - if u are in it from birth is it much of a choice? Especially since it is so restrictive to the female body and interpersonal presence. I am also uncomfortable with some of the security concerns. I was however surprised when France banned it given how much they bend over backwards to tolerance in other ways. There is a tension there. If someone could explain Frances - not our - rationale when they created the ban id appreciate it.

Vis the orthodox Jews....clearly religion can affect world view. Yet when people condemn Islamic extremism, where this extends so often into the most horrifying violence - the link is rejected?

The irony of your question is that criminals don't concern themselves with whether or not it's legal for them to disguise themselves. You think a potential bank robber or terrorist going to think, oh gee, it's illegal to wear a niqab, too bad, can't blow stuff up anymore, guess I'm gonna go be a dental hygienist or a loan officer?

I mentioned police, but I really meant to say under any circumstance. In school? Grocery store? Anywhere. I feel sure that those posting here and indicating that there's no problem with the face being covered wouldn't be giving their approval of some conservative religious sect requiring (giving the choice...) the same in an isolated area of the USA.

I don't understand what you're trying to say - is it because just like before, you mean one thing but say something completely different?

Not PP. The burqa represents spirituality and religious devotion to you? There is no element of repression, or oppression, or connection with sexual violence or abuse?

Let me be clear...how does anyone know who it is if the face is covered? Whether it's a burqa, a mask, a stocking, a suit of armor, a Halloween costume, or a sheet, when the face is covered, we don't have a way of identifying that person. Absurd.
