And do what? Put every depressed kid that someone is worried about in a mental institution or jail? Or maybe we get them help and make it much harder for them to get assault-style weapons.

Agree. Assault weapons ban is low hanging fruit since it was in place for 10 years and the world did not come to end. Life goes on just find without assault weapons polluting our country.

Manufacturers just designed around the ban during those years. Just as manufacturers designed around California's current ban. The compliant rifles remain just as deadly as any other rifle.

The other countries with high gun possession rates don't have the school shooting issues that we do. Countries that are literal warzone don't have that issue, lawless narco states don't have that issue. Countries that mandated each house have a firearm never had that issue.

So what makes Americans shoot up schools? It has to be something beyond merely availability.

The pandemic lockdowns and social media amplified mental health problems, and now we are seeing the effects.

And the violence and carnage we are seeing wouldn’t be possible without access to guns. no matter how mentally ill someone is, they wouldn’t be able to perpetrate an attack like this without guns.

Happens in Japanese schools and Chinese schools particularly against young kids. There was even one a few years back were 31 people were killed and 130 injured in a rail station. You absolutely can have an attack on this level without guns, it happens many times each year around the world.

Then you have all the people who get run over on purpose. Like at a Christmas parade last year where 6 were killed and 62 injured. Half of all terror incidents are conducted this way per the below paper.

If someone is nuts and wants to kill mass numbers of people there are lots of ways to do it which do not require firearms.

More than 9800 people have been killed so far in 2023 in the US by guns. We're not even a quarter of the way through the year.

I noticed that you did NOT share the total annual number of deaths by knives in all of Asia (a continent much larger than the US). Why is that?

Because as a whole, Asian's don't kill each other at the same rate as other racial groups. This is true for Asian populations in Europe and the USA.

Dont be stupid. There are 330 million people in the US and about 420 million firearms (many being semi automatic assault rifles). If there were 2.5 billion assult rifles in China guaranteed there would be more deaths. The guy who murdered over 30 kids at Virginia Tech was Asian American, the son ir Korean immigrant. He was also mentally ill and in the US he was able to legally purchase war weapons that he could not have purchased in S. Korea.

Indian Americans are more law abiding in the USA than they are in India. East Asians are approximately the same in both Asia and the USA. Culturally speaking, violence is rare.

It's fair to ask why more mass shooters are non-white, while mass shootings in a school setting trend white though. What is the difference in terms of psychology for those different groups in mass shooting events?

Statistically its always men so why don't we just not let men have guns then.

It’s not possible to identify people who would murder others without infringing on someone else’s rights. The only solution is regulating guns and making it applicable to everyone. Bans assault rifles, require registration, etc.

There are other ways to harm than just guns. Such as bombs, using cars as a weapon, poisonous gas, etc.

If someone wants to kill, they’re going to do it. Taking one tool away to kill won’t solve that.
