| Does anyone know when the school submits the packages for review? As well can we request a copy of the GBRS report once submission s complete? If so, when would be a good time to reach out the AART? |
1) Some time in March. 2) Yes you can request a copy of the packet 3) It depends on the school. Some people got their packets before decisions were made/announced. Some people were told they could not get the packet until decisions were announced. There isn't anything you can do about it right now. Do your best to chill and relax. Your child is likely to be just fine regardless of what program they end up in because you are invested in them. You will help them reach their potential regardless of General Ed or AAP. When they get too Middle School, they will be able to take honors classes and AP/IB classes in High School. Lots of kids in those classes were not in AAP. |
| I don't see the point in asking for the GBRS or packet before the decisions are made; it's not like you can do anything at this point. Wait and see what happens in April. If your child doesn't get in, that is the time to request additional information. |

| Not OP, but I disagree with the last poster. My kid has a low NNAT and high CogAT. He will be in or not largely based on the GBRS. Appeals timeframe is very short—about a month. DH and I both have very busy schedules. If GBRS is meh, I will at the least schedule a WISC for April but if it is pretty bad I may just get it done in March when GMU has more openings. I know GMU makes every effort to get everyone in during that month but that also requires flexibility that we may or may not have. So having the GBRS ahead of time can be helpful to plan. |
| I would wait until the end of February before asking about when the packets might be available. Give them time to build the packet and do what they need to do. I have no idea how many packets have to be put together on average per school but I suspect that it is a time consuming process. |
Have a parent teacher conference with the teacher; the conversation should give you a pretty good idea how the GBRS will turn out. |
I’ve had that conversation and expect it to be good but I don’t know how good. My school permits us to request packets in March so I will. Others may not have had this conversation with the teacher and find it easier to request the packet. Of the school is willing to provide, why do you care? |
I think the PP was offering a stop gap measure in case you wanted to get a feel for what the GBRSs would look like before you can ask for the packet. We had a conference as well and thought that it went very well. We will be asking for the packet as well, mainly because we are curious. |

If you're in the pool,
And the teacher thinks they're cool, It may be a little fool, To request the packet from school. |
| People in this forum has reported mistakes in those submitted packets (like NNAT CogAT scores). You want to review them sooner than later. |
| I can understand why the schools don’t want to be bothered with packet requests before results are even out. Too many people would request, then get in who would not request if it were only after getting in. Getting the packet won’t tell you the decision anyway just give you more details to obsess over. Forget about it until decision time. |

I’m going to request it in March.
That’s around when I requested it for my oldest a few years ago, and the same AART who we have now gave it to me then. |
| Can someone post a link to the rule where it says parents can get a copy of the packet? My school says they don’t give out copies of the packet, but we are welcome to view the packet in the office. They will only give you copies of the GBRS. That doesn’t sound right. |
Each school has its own set of rules. You will have to ask your AART or principal. At our school, you can definitely get a copy of your child's entire packet after hearing back as to whether they were accepted or not. I have never requested the packet earlier than that, so I am not sure what their policy is on that. It is too early for a packet right now - they have not finished putting them together - so if you are asking for a copy now, it makes sense they don't want to waste their time making a copy of an incomplete packet for you. |
