| I am 43, in decent shape. I did Solidcore for years but struggled with a hip injury so switched to Arms and Abs classes only, and only do those sporadically. I’d like to start back with the reformer and am debating trying Pilates or going back to regular Solidcore classes but doing light resistance. Anyone have experience with both and can compare for me? I am not looking to build strength or lose weight- more so want to maintain the strength I have, avoid injury and find something that’s sustainable as I age. |
| Even on light resistance at Solidcore, you’re doing so many lunges and squats that it seems like it could re-injure you. |

I haven't done solidcore, but have been doing reformer pilates for around 7 years. It's an amazing way to build strength in a very safe way - there are exercises for everyone, whatever injuries or specific issues they might have, and exercises specifically designed to rehabilitate injured areas. I hope to continue it for the rest of my life. Your instructor should ask you what your specific body concerns are at the beginning of class (and if they don't do this, run away straight away!) and should tailor every exercise to your needs.
I'm sure that there would be ways to modify solidcore to meet your needs, but you'd need to be very vigilant about that and understand the exercises to know what you can and can't do. |
| How about Orange Theory vs. Solidcore in building strenght and losing weight? |
NP, and they're totally different workouts. OTF is more cardio, with a separate (and IMO not very effective) strength component. Solidcore is pretty much all strength, with a strong emphasis on core work. OTF probably burns more calories depending on how hard you push yourself. I love solidcore so much, but treat it solely for strength, i.e., I also do separate cardio workouts because I like them. As for pilates vs. solidcore, OP, I think it depends mostly on your preference. You know what solidcore is like. Almost any pilates class is going to be a more chill atmosphere. If you like the solidcore environment you can almost certainly modify most leg moves to prevent re-injuring yourself. I'm mid-40s and hope to continue it for as long as possible! |
