Takoma Park MD if you're not woke

We're looking for a close-in, affordable neighborhood with friendly neighbors etc, and TKPK seems like it would fit the bill ... We're not super political (I trend left, DW right) ... but DW's perception is that the lefty politics are an identity thing there, and that folks get hostile/snobby if you don't share their views. What are your experiences?

Takoma Park is a liberal paradise. I knew NO Republicans there but heard of one.

Takoma Park is actually many cities in one. There is a conservative SDA community that includes Republicans.

How right? Trump signs on the lawn? Pro Life bumper stickers?

No not MAGA-right ... attend evangelical church, prefer lower taxes, but generally just go about our business.

If you don't drive a Prius or Subaru, with a "Coexist" bumper sticker on the back, you'll be ostracized.

If you stay closer to the University Blvd/NH Ave almost Langley Park area, you’ll find many like-minded folks. Mostly Latino and African immigrants. The area that is closest to Old Town and the Metro is the hippy part.

I wouldn’t not move there if she tends right.

OP - what do you mean by "friendly" and are there certain identity / cultural group(s) that you and your wife are looking for?

Not particular abt identity or cultural groups ... More like we are coming from more of a bedroom community where folks go back and forth to work and keep to themselves, and in the new place we want to get to know the neighbors, do stuff together, grill food and drink a beer on the back porch with whoever's around etc.

Try the neighborhoods just off Sligo Creek Parkway toward East SS. They have an older suburban feel and a good mix of families from diverse backgrounds.

I wouldn’t. People will just try to argue with you. Some will call you a racist for espousing Republican ideals. Try Kensington. More Republicans there.

Both communities have an outspoken left-leaning contingent and then everyone else is chill. OP’s wife could be called a racist in Kensington just as easily. But it’s not likely to happen either place with the lifestyle OP described.
