OP, is your wife a flaming Republican? Will she cringe when she sees those ‘everyone is welcome here’ lawn signs? Will she be offended when teenagers miss school to go to gun control rallies, because she owns several rifles? Is she ‘a little bit’ racist?
Yes, TKPK is liberal, but politics do not dominate discussions among neighbors. I met a TkPk Republican and he was great. We talked for hours. It’s good to disagree with people on some things. There’s even a city-run Republican garden, right next to the Democratic one, and they’re equally nice. |

No. Kensington has a much bigger conservative (mostly Catholic) crowd. I don’t think people in TP would be intolerant, but would you have common ground with your neighbors? It’s a very politically active community. |
| OP, why not Silver Spring? Consider Woodside Park, Woodside Forest, Seven Oaks. |
Yes, Takoma Park is a great community if you’re an activist or want to be. |
This. You can coexist peacefully. |
Lol, no. |
Can you all say more about why? I’d describe myself the same way and we’ve been contemplating whether a move to TP would be good for our family. |
Remember that left Democrats are not tolerant at all to any other perspective. If you are not very liberal you might feel “not among like minded people” and they will never stop trying to convert you. |
Couldn’t have said it better! Flaming Republican! I met one once and he was great. Sounds like old school racist to me. |
That's ridiculous. |
That describes parts of TKPK, but not the majority of residents. If you want to pretend that the liberal minority living near Old Town is driving everyone else away, how do you account for the huge SDA population that skews socially conservative? |
| Only 8th? We have work to do, LOL! |
That certainly exists, but I feel fairly sure we are not discussing those neighborhoods in this thread. ie, the unincorporated part of TP that’s in PG county. Or the high rise, subsidized rental apartments closer to the historic downtown. |
