| Tech has a 70% admissions rate, yet the average NON WEIGHTED GPA is a 3.9. I see lots of schools with much lower acceptance rates where the average gpa/SAT score is much lower than Techs. This just does not make any sense. |
| It is called self-selection and is not unique to VT. |
|
I'm curious why it matters to you what a college's admission's rate is? I'd be more interested in its graduation rate and it's job placement rate. I.e. outcomes.
Seems weird to care about an admissions rate. |
|
Because GPAs are inflated in Virginia. What public school is on a true, 4.0scale? None. The GPAs go up to 4.6+.
|
It’s curiosity. Plus it just doesn’t make sense. The school has vey high stats for incoming Freshmen. E erroneous knows it’s one of the hardest Virginia schools to be admitted to. Yet the admissions rate is considerably higher than schools with much lower stats. |
I think it's more than curiosity. I suspect it hurts your ego because you say "everyone knows it's one of the hardest Virginia schools to be admitted to" when that's clearly not the case. |
Yeah but it’s still easy to calculate the unweighted GPA, and it doesn’t explain why schools with lower incoming unweighted gpas would have a lower admittance rate. |
It's an engineering school. That's not atypical for an engineering school. The students self-select. |
Getting into an engineering program isn't that hard. Staying in an engineering program is REALLY hard. |
"one of the hardest Virginia schools to be admitted to" with a 70% admission rate? Check your math. It's not hard to get into. It's also not in demand outside of Virginia. It's actually EASIER to get in from OOS. |
| It’s in an undesirable location? Barnard has an 11% acceptance rate and Pitzer has a 12% acceptance rate. Neither are very well endowed schools, but both are in excellent locations compared to other LACs. |
| Public School Counselors will only write recommendations if they think you have a good chance. They are the gate-keepers for Public Colleges. |
Barnard is in an excellent location? Pitzer is the runt of the Claremont litter. Virginia Tech is a safety school for UVA rejects that has no appeal outside of this area. |
as my kid learned... |
Ok fine think that. Now can you answer the question as to why a school that has a student profile with high stats also has a very high admissions rate? |
