Where do b students from big 3 schools go?

Junior with solid B's at big 3, 31 ACT, dedicated athlete on travel team but probably not good enough for division 1 maybe division 3, nice charming kid, teachers love him, will have good rec's, ok EC's.
Where do these kind of kids end up? We don't have super high goals - just want to make sure he ends up somewhere he is happy. He wants somewhere will school spirit and a fun campus life. Counselor says Wisconsin, Vermont, UNC but those seem like reaches based on this board. HELP!

Get him an ACT tutor. He still has time to increase his score.

He should talk to his high school coach about options for colleges - there are likely summer "camps" or showcases that they should do to attract attention from colleges.

UNC (Chapel Hill?) will be a reach.

I don't think Wisconsin or Vermont are reaches.

I taught at Vermont. They take undergrad ed very seriously.

Mailroom at daddy's firm.

Vermont would be a safety, Wisconsin a match, UNC a reach.

Pitt? Alabama?

Wisconsin had over 40,000 applications this year for EA. It would be a reach.

Following, as this is likely to be my DS’s situation a year from now. Any hope for the supposed “boy bump” at an SLAC?

Wouldn't counselor have a better idea of your kid's chances than people on this board?

Right? Like...is this not why you pay for a Big 3?

I laugh whenever I see posts like this. You're paying tens of thousands of dollars a year for high school and trusting an anonymous forum of whack job parents over the school's guidance counselors?

Full ride? Options are endless. Need aid? Better scores no matter if a big 3 or public.
