How many kids do most of your friends/circle have? How many do you have?

Our circle of friends are all having their first or second kids right now (we are all in our mid-30s). DH and I are having our 3rd and we were just discussing how most of our friends won't be having more than 2 kids. We have discussed the possibility of having 4 but are on the fence. How many kids do you have? How old are you? Do most of the friends in your circle of friends have the same number of kids?

We have two. 34 and 37.

Most of our friends have two, but the ones who have one generally have one age 3 or under (or are a gay couple who adopted).

I wouldn't drop you as a friend just because you have a bunch more kids than I do, and I don't think you should do your family planning based on what other people do.

I'm 44 and have 2 kids - toddler and elementary schooler. Most of our friends have one or two kids. I know a couple of people with 3 kids and can't think of anyone I know with 4 kids from this area.

I'm in my mid 30s. Almost every single family we know in this area has two kids, spaced exactly 2-3 years apart. I am expecting our second, but ours will be 5 years apart. The fact that I wasn't pregnant by the time the first was 2.5 apparently led most people to think we were definitely one and done, and now i'm getting lots of questions about whether or not the pregnancy was intended (it was). Thinking about the kids in my son's current class, there is one only child, and two of the kids are one of three. The other 17 or so are all one of two, and most are closely spaced. There's a selection bias in my social circle on families with two working parents - I don't know any stay at home parents in the area.

We have 3.

We live in an affluent suburb of NYC.

Around here, the richest families have 4 or 5 kids and tons of help. Wives rarely work.

It’s like 0-1 (struggling professionally) or 3+ (rich). I’m in my mid 30s.

Most people in our neighborhood and circle of friends have 1 or 2. We have 2.

My kids go to a church-based preschool and most families there have 2-3 kids, with a sprinkling of 4 and 5 kid families.

Since my oldest started kindergarten I am realizing there are more 3 kid families and stay at home moms than I ever realized existed in my central Arlington neighborhood- we just don’t run into them I guess. It has made me wonder sometimes what it would be like to have 3 since it looks like fun, but I don’t think I could handle the logistics.

I’m 38 and I have 3 kids (I had them at 27, 30, and 33).

I would say most of my friends have 2 or 3 kids and some have 1 or 4. I’m definitely not the odd man out with 3, but a lot do have 2.

I’m 35 and my husband’s 36. We have 2 kids, ages 5 and 2.5. We were one of the first of our friends to have kids. Most of our friends our age have just had their first kids within the last 2 years and will likely have 1-2 kids. My husband is from the Midwest and his friends who still live there all have 3 or 4 kids.

My BF has 2. My other close friends have: 2, 2, 2, 3, 3.

We are 41 with 2 kids. I'd say 75% of people I know have 2, 20% have 3, and the other 5% have either 1 or 4.
