Most have 2. A few have 3 and a few have an only child. I don’t know anyone in this area who has 4+, but some of my friends back home in the Midwest have 4+ kid families with a lot of extended family support. |
We have 1 due to fertility issues. Almost all have 2, some have 1 or 3. Don't know anyone still in DC with more than 3, though we're only 35 and 36, so still time for peers to have more. |
In a wealthy area of Moco, I know two families with four and a few families with one. Of the remaining I would say that 2/3 of them have two and the rest have three.
I will say that I was surprised by the number of people I knew who had a third when no one thought they would. Like after their youngest was already in kindergarten etc. And these are working mothers so it’s not the whole “want to continue staying home so have another baby” thing. |
About 1/2 my circle has two. Maybe 1/4 has just one and the other 1/4 has anywhere from 3-6. Myself and many others of the two crowd did not select two as the magic number. Lots of secondary infertility. Lots of whoops babies. |
I would say 50% have 3. The rest have a mixture of 1, 2, and 4. Know several with 4 but only 1 with 5.
We have two. Originally wanted 3 but found parenting more stressful than I thought I would. |
DP. Similar experience. We are near 50yo. Our friends either have no kids or they have 4+ in metro DC (VA). We have 2 in ES, and the friends with 4+ kids are 5-10 years younger than us. |
In our circle everyone has 2, few have 3. I wish we had 3, but we only have 2. |
We also know several larger families with 4+ kids in Arlington, McLean and Vienna. My good friend from college lives in NYC (townhouse in Brooklyn) and has 5 kids. Large families are more common than you think. |
Was your original family background UMC? And most of the wives- were they UMC from their original family bacgrounds? |

We have 3. Most of my friends have 1-2. We are late 30s. |
We are 40 and 41. We have 3 kids. I had the third when I was 38.
Most of our friends have 2 kids. Some have 1. Some have 3. Most have 2. |
We have one. Most of our friends have 1 or two. A handful of 3. I can’t think of any with more. (Outside of family and old friends in Ohio). |
NP here, and I totally would! Or at least, I wouldn’t be inclined to be friends with you in the first place. I mean, come on, the planet and environment are already overburdened, so replace yourselves and move on! And if you want to show off how wealthy you are, add an addition to your tacky McMansion or buy another Range Rover! The world doesn’t need more of your spawn. |
I have two.
Most people I know have 1 or 2. |
