Tickets for talking and texting while driving?

Anonymous
Now they're going to take pictures of what we're doing INSIDE our cars? That's not acceptable. If a police officer sees someone, fine, give them a ticket, but I've seen those pics of drivers and it's so not okay that we are being photographed in our cars. At least if you're speeding there's a legitimate reason to have taken the shot of your car, but how are they doing to figure out what cars to take pictures of? Just capture everyone and sift through them?

Creepy as hell. No way would I approve of this. Montgomery County, MD.

They can take my pic all day long, I've got nothing to hide. You sound oddly upset about this.

BTW - if you are texting while driving, they sure as shit better ticket your ass, and a big one too! at least $500.

I'm in favor of cracking down on people texting while driving. I'm just wondering how they will be able to tell from a photo what you're doing with your phone. I sometimes drive with my phone in my hand if I'm using Waze and the sun is at an angle that creates a glare from its mounted position. I'm sure there are other inocuous reasons to have a phone in your hand.

Thank god. I wish there was a way to report people to the police via social media for taking pictures, video taping, etc while in a moving car. Absolutely uncalled for.

WTH is wrong with you? Put down the phone and drive.

OP, you may feel like your car is a zone of privacy. Obviously, some people do otherwise they wouldn’t do stupid things like read the newspaper or apply mascara. Actually, People can and do see what you’re doing in your car. It’s not private.

Silly question, but...

Is it illegal to text while driving in DC, MD and VA?

What about while stopped at a red light?
Anonymous
I hope they do I don’t want you txting and running into my high schooler walking to school, or walking with pals in the neighborhood (no sidewalks), or plowing into us at a stoplight. Get off your damn phone.

That’s illegal. You’d get a ticket if seen.

Please tell me you don’t actually drive without knowing the answer to this.

I can't wait! Yep, all of you speeding on I 95 while looking down at your phone and weaving in and out should be in prison! Viva police state for idiots!

It's illegal to use your phone at a red light, but it's becoming like driving 5 mph: not enforced because it's so common.

You are just one of extreme dangerous drivers, among thousands here! It is illegal. Let me ask you this? When you were growing up, was your mom reading a book while driving you?!

At least in Maryland, the law is against a handheld cell phone. So no, what you’re doing is not OK. Learn to listen to the directions instead of holding something in your hand that you need to stare at.
