The woman who hit me was checking her email. A Fed running late. I was in the crosswalk with the walk sign. She paid a fine and got a few points, plus higher insurance premiums. If the state of ND cared so much, they would not have allowed her to plea down. |
Then hopefully you are finally realizing the consequences of your continuing to vote for these left wing control freaks in Montgomery County. You all got exactly what you voted for. |
I wonder how many of you would disagree with the law if you or a loved one were injured by a distracted driver. |
More control over the many, many drivers who are endangering others by using their cell phones while driving, please. Meanwhile, put your phone away when you drive. |
|
Texting while driving is absolutely unsafe, but talking? You mean on the phone?
Why the hell would you give out tickets for that?! For one, it's not illegal. |
Talking on a hand held phone is illegal. |
Right, but OP didn't specify. You can't possibly ticket someone for talking on the phone when you have it on speaker or routed through the car's system. |
It's definitely distracting. I see it all the time as a pedestrian - people breaking randomly, not paying attention to their surroundings, being distracted on their wireless phonecall. In my opinion, it should absolutely be illegal. |
In Maryland? It sure is illegal, if you're talking on a phone in your hand. If you're talking on a phone on Bluetooth or whatever, it's not illegal, but it should be - because it's dangerous and it leads to illegal behaviors. I can't count the number of times drivers have sailed by me obliviously (and illegally) while talking on a phone. |
How is talking on a phone on Bluetooth different than talking to someone who is in the car with you? |

| tesla and other autonomous cars should not be ticketed, this is a dumb idea |
technology has already solved this problem, crash avoidance will stop the car when a pedestrian is in front of it so the driver doesn't have to pay attention. why aren't we using technology to solve problems instead of outdated laws. |
| I knew this would be in and before I Even read the whole post. Such a nanny state. |
| OP, your gripe should be about the existence of the technology and not the law itself. There's no reason for anybody to think that texting and driving is OK. As for the government use of the technology, c'mon who are you kidding here. If the government wants to voyeur on whatever activity you're doing wherever you are, it can and it will. It doesn't need a traffic camera as a conduit/loophole to do so. Also, these technologies may serve (or may have already possibly served) important national security purposes, i.e., avoid terror (both foreign and domestic) attacks. |
