Tickets for talking and texting while driving?

If a police officer sees someone, fine, give them a ticket, but I've seen those pics of drivers and it's so not okay that we are being photographed in our cars. At least if you're speeding there's a legitimate reason to have taken the shot of your car, but how are they doing to figure out what cars to take pictures of? Just capture everyone and sift through them?

Creepy as hell. No way would I approve of this. Montgomery County, MD.

Love my MoCo! Best county ever! You should be in prison, not posting here.

I don't text and drive. That's not the issue. Have you seen the pics they showed on the news of people in their cars? It is unreal what a creepy police state we are living in these days. This is a free country. People should willingly obey the laws, not obey them because they are being filmed by the state. That is just wrong.

If you don’t want your picture taken stay home with the shades drawn. Every other driver on my morning commute has a phone in their hand. I’m floored there aren’t more accidents. If this is what it takes to get people to put their phones down good, do it.

Yeah that's the thing isn't it. There aren't more accidents. This isn't about preventing accidents, it's about making more money.

Actually there are lots and lots of accidents.

No western country has anywhere close to the number of traffic fatalities per capita that we have in the US.

There are actually quite a few studies now showing that using a phone while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk:

But freedom. Or something.

Only every other driver is on the phone pp? On my red lights, if I look left, person on the phone head down, to my right, the same, rear-view mirror exactly the same. Driving 75 on a highway, weaving in and out, watched a driver almost hit a wall, watched a driver going 40 miles per hour on ICC head down texting. It is an epidemic and it is killing people. I don't care what I look like in a photo, if I am texting I should go to prison!

But many people don't willingly obey laws.

Are you giving blo*jobs, texting and driving op? If so, then you do have something to worry about.

Put your phone down and use Google, Siri, your car's automated voice system or Alexa. You don't need to stare at a screen to text someone. Keep you eyes on the road.

"Text Bob Be home in 10 minutes." Come on, people.

That's legal, but it's also distracted driving.

When you drive, here's what you need to focus on: driving.

People should, but people don't, so that's why we have law enforcement.

Fyi I do not text and drive but I also have an old car that cannot text either. Bob will know when I get home when I walk through the door.

+1 I agree. Fines should be large and painful.

I agree with op that it is creepy and inappropriate. There are a lot of things people do in a car that are illegal and no one has ever called for pictures to be taken. We’re not a police state and we shouldn’t allow local politicians to turn us into one.
