Skipped mac and cheese.. mashed potatoes and rolls today! Feeling sad.

I am on a diet and made a super healthy Thanksgiving for my family and have been on a workout spree, doing more consecutive workouts that I have in years.
We had a lot of veggies- roasted brussel sprouts, a healthy green bean casserole that was from scratch, roasted carrots, cranberry citrus sauce with honey, cauliflower puree... I really missed all the unhealthy food! We did this because we will have all the leftovers and didn't want to overindulge. I went to a few friendsgiving with all the good stuff but now I'm feeling a little let down today.

If you went to a few friendsgivings on top of the meal you just made today, I'd say it's probably just as well that you cooked healthy dishes today.

I cooked a bunch of decadent, starchy, loaded with carbs and calories stuff and I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do with the leftovers..

Oh no, I think you didn't have to skip all that. I've been very strict about not exceeding my calorie limit lately but if I am eating out (which happens rarely) I don't worry about calories too much. (Of course, eating low carb helps because I don't even really crave carbs.)

You can't and don't have to abstain all the time, don't make it too hard otherwise it's very tempting to give up.

Some people (like me!) are the opposite. I HAVE to abstain completely or else I go completely off the rails. I can’t just have a taste of Christmas cookies or pizza or whatever...I want it all. If I allow myself a small amount it’s more willpower to stop than if I had never started. Bright Line Eating has been very helpful to me (thanks DCUM!)

Anyways, good job OP. It’s a tough day but your health is more important! Being with friends and family is the good part of Thanksgiving, otherwise it’s just a meal!

Yesterday, I had stuffing, mac & cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy. Two small pieces of pie for desert and some chips and dips as an appetizer before we even ate dinner. It was all sooo good! But afterwards, my stomach felt like it was going to explode. I am not used to eating that much anymore, lol.

Today I am fasting. I did a 36 hour fast Sunday night thru Tuesday morning and I will do another 36 hour fast Thursday night thru Sat morning. Even with those fasts I will, at best, maintain my weight this week and quite possibly I will wind up a pound or so heavier.

I'll tighten up my diet next week and I'll once again be in weight loss mode. It's no big deal.

Good job! I just ended my 36 hours fast, too, and feel great.

Sounds like you have a serious emotional attachment to food, OP. I think if you want your current diet results to last, you're going to need to address this.

This is exactly why elimination and restriction diets don't work.

We never have Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes or rolls at our turkey day. Didn't miss them. Start a new tradition.

What does this even mean?

Huh? I think its really strange that OP is so caught up in missing a few foods at one meal that she feels "sad" about it. That's really f*&(ed up.

Except this is 100% right. To be this emotionally invested in one meal? Enough to post here? Not at all normal.

I would feel sad if I missed out on traditional thanksgiving foods on thanksgiving too. I love traditional thanksgiving foods, and don't get them all in one place on any other day of the year. Healthy living is about the day-to-day, not what you do on one day. I don't see the point in depriving myself on the biggest eating day of the year. I can get back to eating normally the next day.

I took small portions of everything on Thanksgiving, got seconds of a few things and was the happiest girl ever.

Agree. There are probably so many days in the summer where you're just eating light salads, etc. Why not eat all the heavy things you love on one day? You'll burn the calories at some point over the next year?
