‘W’ schools boundary study?

Are there any boundary changes planned for W schools?

There’s a countywide boundary study. That could lead to changes for any school in MCPS. You aren’t immune.

I am aware of the county wide boundary study. Just curious what the changes would look like for W schools.

No one knows yet because the study isn’t done.

Yes.

There will be one about 18 months before Woodward opens in 2025 (so late 2023, maybe 2024 and then voted on in fall of 2024 for implementation when Woodward opens on fall of 2025).

I can see the need to occasionally adjust the boundaries among neighboring school clusters to balance the student populations at the schools. I see no benefit to making kids go farther away than that for school. If they say my kid has to leave our good school for a lesser one, we are done. We live where we live for a reason.

If other kids are the ones who have to travel a greater distance to get to your school because of redistricting, are you also done? Curious if your objection is the distance to the school (commute) or the composition of the student body.

That is going to happen for W schools similar to what happened for cabin branch.

OK. Then you're done. Your decision.

Any changes for the W schools will likely be small like what happened to Northwest in the Seneca Valley study. Minor changes. Rich powerful people have means that the marginally wealthy Upcounty inhabitants don't.

You mean, MCPS will reassign neighborhoods from one area school to another area school, as part of a boundary study to fill seats at a newly-expanded high school building?

I can never keep it straight whether Northwest is privileged or gangs.

Sometimes balancing student populations (overcrowding vs. undercrowding) will mean a marginal shift in travel time. You can't get one without the other.

The three new studies mentioned in this article are the only current boundary studies. Everything else is unknown.
One of the studies could affect Wootton's boundaries if students currently zoned for QO who attend Rachel Carson ES are reassigned to DuFief ES in the Wootton cluster and their high school (and middle school) assignments are changed as well.
The other two studies do not include any W schools. But there is a BCC study for Somerset and Westbrook which would affect only the boundaries of those two ESs within that cluster.
