JFC why does it always come down to skin color?

+1. Also, no one is above criticism. It’s part of life, especially if you willingly put yourself in the public sphere. Just because you are famous or rich or powerful or athletic, it doesn’t make you better than other people.

If we are not allowed to criticize anyone other than ourselves we should also not be allowed to praise anyone other than ourselves, right?

Most of the people criticizing Simone Biles are mediocre people and non-gymnasts. So, it's kind of like a fat blob criticizing the way LeBron James handled a play. It's pretty meaningless.

Simone Biles competed at the World Championships while passing a kidney stone. Don't talk to me about this woman's toughness. She is 24-years old, which sadly is really old for a gymnast, and she has pushed the limits of gymnastic further than anyone who has preceded her.

Every. Single. Gymnast. who has chimed in has said why it was right for Simone to withdraw. Being off in gymnastics with the level of speed and height they work with, it can be life-threatening to be off.

You don’t know anything about the people criticizing Biles, yet you feel free to judge them and deem them “mediocre.” But god forbid anyone judge the famous, rich lady for anything she does. GMAFB. You may worship at the altar of celebrity, but many of us don’t and never will.

If you want to attack a famous rich lady who people worship at the altar of celebrity, have a go at Megyn Kelly.

Attacking a woman who survived a drug addicted birth mother, foster care, years of sexual abuse and gaslighting to rise to the top of her sport and stayed in to protect others, who pushed her body past known limits of physics and is always positive in her messages to young girls and women, you may want to re-asses your life.

Biles has achieved a tremendous amount in her young life, which is all to her credit. She doesn’t need your pity, and I doubt she even wants it.

Yeah, my post was about pity.

Jeff has removed quite a few posts for being racist/misogynistic/doubting about whether mental health issues are real health issues.

NP. If you weren't a mediocre person, you could use your exalted status to share your thoughts about Simone Biles with the world publicly and the world would care, just as Michael Phelps, tons of gymnasts and elite athletes and prominent leaders have done. But since you prefer to spew negativity anonymously on DCUM, I'm also fairly confident that you don't have the talent or knowledge of gymnastics or moral platform to judge Biles.

Maybe Simone just wants to spend some time with family. Her brother just beat a murder that had to be a huge relief

There was a competitor in women's trampoline last night who did major damage to her ankle 9 weeks ago. I had to wonder how much more was being done.

There's another sport where spacial awareness and focus is crucial to safety.

Ludicrous. Please tell me you're in a non-tech field.

To say she is the greatest female gymnast of all time is not an understatement — indeed, she may just be the greatest, having shown her ability to pull off moves previously considered the preserve of male athletes, like the notoriously difficult Yurchenko double pike. (Biles herself occasionally wears leotards embellished with a goat.)

These heroic feats leave audiences speechless, but to understand them, we must turn to the thing Biles’ athleticism seems to bend: physics.

“ONCE SHE’S IN THE AIR, SHE IS A PROJECTILE.”

David Young, a physicist at Louisiana State University who has investigated the physics of this sport before, explains that part of what sets Biles apart is her ability to act as the conductor to a symphony of factors that play into each movement.

“What sets her apart is her strength, balance, coordination, and muscle control that produce faster rotation rates once she’s in the air,” he tells Inverse after examining the footage of her latest feat.

Young makes a few back-of-the-envelope calculations:

Biles launches into the triple-double at about 14.7 miles per hour from a 71-degree angle
She reaches a peak of 9.5 feet and travels 6.5 feet from where she launched
The impact force from the landing is 382 pounds of force, which is more than three times the gymnast’s weight

I blame the media for continuing to focus on her. She’s done. Move onto the other athletes.

Simone needs to step away from gymnastics now. That’s the only way to stop the media attention. At the very least, she needs to step back for a couple years and pivot to something else.

I don't think she can move away. She's under contract to headline a "Gold Over America" gymnastics tour (which explains a lot about why she was in Tokyo in the first place).

Watch Episode 2 of "Golden" on Peacock before you start trash talking elite gymnasts.

I’ve been watching this thread like a Hawk. Even the posts that have been removed were not even a tiny tiny tiny bit racist. Zero. Zero.

There is no racism on this thread. I know that does not fit your narrative, but it’s the truth.
