Wake up, this isn’t 1995 any more. Korean is not an obscure language, especially around here, and especially now with Korea becoming dominant. When Skyview is running at full capacity it would make sense that Korean be one of the languages offered.

No dog in this hunt. However, Korean is the FLES at Floris according to fcps website.

Oak Hill has Chinese.

That doesn't mean they can offer Korean and Chinese at Skyview. Japanese is more likely because of the JI program at Fox Mill.

Carson is actually bigger than Skyview will be in year one.

They may have to have teachers splitting time between multiple schools-not a popular schedule for teachers.

Maybe with Carson for Japanese?

They already hired a part time Japanese teacher, we were told it is not the JI teacher from SLHS or Carson. My kid is in JI that opted in to Skyview, it has been something that the FMES families have been in pretty constant communication with the Skyview staff about. It is important to the group. One possibility is that the class will be Japanese 3/4 combo.

My rising 9th grader is hoping to get AP Human Geography. They will have the classes that enough kids ask for. I would assume AP Bio and AP World History for the 10th graders. Probably AP Comp Sci Principles.

They have said all along that they will have the classes that there is enough interest for so it will depend on what the kids signed up for and how many did signed up for a particular class.

Sophomores have to take chemistry.

Some kids double up, I don't necessarily know when but I know kids who take AP Bio and AP Chem and AP Physics. I don't pretend to know the scheduling for all of that but I can see a STEM kid taking AP Bio and Chemistry at the same time.

Chemistry is a pre req for AP Bio, so no. Juniors or seniors can take AP Bio. No one doubles up with AP Bio and intro level chemistry as a sophomore. Juniors and seniors may take AP Chem or AP Bio.

You really don’t have a clue how the sequence works? Then do us all a favor and shut your yapper.

+1 AP Bio is not offered to sophomores and will not be offered to sophomores at Skyview.

Why not see what languages are offered at Carson which is the middle school feeder for Skyview?

Sorry but that’s a very odd statement to make. You agree you don’t know how the sequence/schedule works but you can “see” a kid taking AP Bio and chem at the same time? You sound ridiculous. I’ll educate you so you don’t keep posting incorrect statements on DCUM. I also suggest taking time to learn the FCPS pathways of science before you double down on incorrect assertions. You should know then if you have a rising freshman. Chemistry is a pre requisite for AP Bio. And in FCPS, sophomores take chemistry. Freshman take biology. It is not possible to double up on AP Bio and chemistry. Now as a junior or a senior one could take AP Chem and AP Bio. But AP Buobis not open to sophomores, sorry.

Carson offers Spanish, French, and Japanese. They had Chinese in 2024-2025 but it was not offered this year. I believe that there is room for a 4th language and I don't know if they have set the fourth language. I do know that Korean was mentioned back in the initial conversations about who could opt-in, I am not sure if that is still on the list. I do think that the school is responding to the incoming populations and if there are schools that are going to be in boundary with a language immersion program, they will include that language. That is what is happening with Japanese. If Fox Mill is moved to Skyview, the JI program will need to move with it. There are enough students in the program to run at least one clas a year at SLHS, I have no idea if there are students who were not in JI that pick up Japanese at SLHS. I want to say that there were between students in the Japanese Immersion classes at Carson. The 8th grade group split down the middle between SLHS and Skyview.

Yes some non-JI students do start Japanese at SLHS.
Skyview will probably have more of Fox Mill’s JI students going forward, because up until now a significant number of them have pupil placed at Oakton or Chantilly to avoid SLHS and take AP. Now that Skyview is their school (and has AP) those students are unlikely to pupil place elsewhere.

Given that technically there are no Japanese Immersion classes at the high school level, what happens after they complete Japanese 4 when they are sophomores?
