Masks optional by spring break

I wear cloth masks BECAUSE they’re the least effective. I prefer no mask.

The amount of death is absolutely horrific but science (that is conducted properly and shows an understanding of statistics) is not propaganda. Cloth masks do not work and this has been clear for a long time.

Unless every student and teacher is wearing a cloth mask, what does the science say about higher quality masks? You are misleadingly arguing that cloths masks do nothing therefore all masks are worthless.

Deliberately and maliciously arguing that masks don't work because some cloth ones are useless. It's all over right wing media. This is their latest tactic.

They will soon pivot to a "small children don't know how to smile," again.

One of them blasted all the DMV parenting listserves with her nosense.

This is exactly what's happening. Some MAGA insurrectionist site mentioned Michael Osterholm and now those GQP'ers are on here plastering the board with selective cherry picked comments of his about cloth face masks, which again almost no one is wearing even the children

"At the outset, I want to make several points crystal clear:

I support the wearing of cloth face coverings (masks) by the general public.
Stop citing CIDRAP and me as grounds to not wear masks, whether mandated or not.
Don't, however, use the wearing of cloth face coverings as an excuse to decrease other crucial, likely more effective, protective steps, like physical distancing......Again, I want to make it very clear that I support the use of cloth face coverings by the general public. I wear one myself on the limited occasions I'm out in public. In areas where face coverings are mandated, I expect the public to follow the mandate and wear them. " - Michael T. Osterholm

This statement is from July of 2020, a few months into the pandemic. As a reminded we are now in 2022, almost two years into the pandemic and with different variants that transmit very differently than what was happening in July of 2020. And you know all this, and posted it any way, which makes you a pathetic, disgusting liar.

Here is what he said on mask mandates from this last week's podcast:

"We have to understand we are living in a very different time than we were two years ago. So where am I at with mask mandates? I think for most instances, they're not doing much. I wish they were. But unless you're wearing high quality respiratory protection that is routinely enforced that we've instructed the public how to do, no more of this 25% of the population wearing it under your nose, if we're not doing that, then we are not probably gaining much at all from a mandate. And we are causing ourselves lots of credibility challenges. So I hope that gives you a sense of where I'm at on this. I would talk about this in all aspects of public health. It's about common sense. It's really about using the power of science, finding that message, telling people what you know, what you don't know, and also understanding where people are at. Because if we don't bring them along with us, we will not be successful in any program that we do to address COVID."

If we're calling Michael Osterholm a "GOPer" or "MAGA insurrectionist" then seriously those terms have no meaning at all.

The reason Osterholm says mask mandates don't work is because we aren't requiring high quality respirators.

The people currently wearing high quality respirators properly (nobody under the age of 7 btw), which are less comfortable to wear, are not going to take them off when they are optional. So what exactly is the mask mandate achieving.

Btw we are NOT mandating high quality respirators and many in the public that do wear them, are not wearing them properly. The current mandates are useless. We should either mandate respirators that work and have a mechanism for enforcing that does not place the burden entirely on teachers, which is unrealistic and not going to happen, or do away with the mandate entirely.
