US has no good options in Ukraine

A little bird told me that Putin has early Alzheimer's, and that this is hastening any military actions under consideration (remember that he's not a dictator, he's governing with an oligarchy, so there are several people deciding and maneuvering). Have you heard anything about that?

He does look sickly and slouches now

Those on Twitter who speak Russian say that he was unhinged in his speech on Monday. Have we trained Ukraine with drones? The surgical use of them would be nice right about now. The average Russian wants economic progress and he has prevented it. I doubt the average conscripted 18 year old soldier is really into killing his cousins in Ukraine on orders from a crazy oligarch.

I guess Tuckio Rose and all the GOP are delighted now.

Muricans! Insulting a whole nation of people, but thinking you are being nice to them! How is that shirt ever ok? Talk about Othering and hating.

They won’t be. Biden is too stupid to think of that.

Yes. All the people working in diplomacy and intelligence are stupider than you, PP. Obvs.

DP, but hey, some of us can actually make that claim. Have you been watching our foreign policy at all for the last few decades?

Lol, no, watching Fox News and listening to Newt Gingrich doesn't count.

Do you know the quality of people that work at places like cia?

I’ll give you a hint - they gave me a job in the DI.

I was never able to get a job at Carlyle or top tier PE funds.

America’s best and brightest don’t work at cia.

This is totally a thing that happened.

Lol ok - there are tons of dcum people who work in ic or connected in some way shape or form.

This isn’t uncommon. Lots of sais, sfs, fletcher grads here. And tons get offers from places like cia.

It is a lot easier to go work for cia as a country analyst than working at Carlyle.

The delusion.

Seems as if so far, they have only sanctioned people in Ukraine. What about the damn Russians?

My God, Robert Gates was right. He can't get anything right when it comes to foreign policy (or domestic policy, for that matter).

+1 I cannot believe this bumbling idiot is the leader of the United States and is leading us into a war. It has to be so he can divert attention away from the economy, take us into military industrial complex level spending, and blame “Russian interference” for the primaries.

Sit down. Biden is dealing with more moving parts than you are capable of understanding.

No, I won’t sit down. Biden isn’t capable of dealing with moving parts. We all know he isn’t in charge here. Remember when Putin annexed Crimea under Obama? And remember when Obama told Romney he was stupid to think Russia was our greatest adversary? And remember when everyone was terrified Trump would get us into a world war and it never happened? Putin knows weakness when he sees it. He knows Biden will follow Obama era policy.

And, the debacle in Afghanistan sealed the deal as far as Putin was concerned.

The only moving parts Biden is capable of dealing with are the moving parts that result in his daily constitutional. And, even those moving parts are occasionally tough for him to handle.

Uh you DO know that it was Trump who signed the deal handing Afghanistan over to the Taliban, right?

Uh You DO know that Democrats in Congress wanted all troops out of Afghanistan. Trump never would have removed equipment before troops and civilians. The CF that happened in Afghanistan was Biden’s doing. I don’t even like Trump, but you’re delusional if you blame Trump for the overwhelming failure of Biden’s decisions in Afghanistan. Putin saw what happened too. He knows he can do whatever he wants.

Oh please. And you do know that Republicans wanted us to stay indefinitely and waste trillions more?

Trump had zero coherent plan for Afghanistan. Had he been responsible for the withdrawal, it would have been even more rushed, with even less planning. And worse yet, he said he would have destroyed the Afghan National Army's equipment, meaning an even bigger betrayal and even faster collapse to the Taliban. The idiot wasn't even aware that most of the equipment he was talking about wasn't "US equipment" and that it had been transferred to the Afghan National Army over the span of the 20 years prior. https://theweek.com/afghanistan/1004326/trump-bomb-the-hell-out-of-us-equipment-left-behind-in-afghanistan Trump also shut down the SIV offices that were processing papers needed for translators and other close Afghan allies. Afghanistan withdrawal under Trump would have been far worse of a disaster than it was under Biden. Anyone thinking otherwise is clueless and massively delusional.

Germans pulling the plug on Nordstream2 is a start. Now they need to freeze ALL of the oligarch money in western banks and real estate.

AN ‘INVASION’ OR NOT? — As of Monday night, the White House was refusing to call this an “invasion” — though we’ll see how long that lasts given public pressure from lawmakers. Senior administration officials were awkwardly dancing around the matter in a background briefing with reporters, refusing to answer the “i-word” question because of the consequences it would bring.

HERE’S THE PROBLEM: Lawmakers on Capitol Hill aren’t playing these word games. The squawking, unsurprisingly, started on the GOP side, with Republicans on the Foreign Affairs and Armed Services panels demanding full and maximum sanctions right away. They argued that by the administration’s original position, this is an invasion, plain and simple. Sen. LINDSEY GRAHAM (R-S.C.) said the move “should immediately be met with forceful sanctions to destroy the ruble and crush the Russian oil and gas sector.” Rep. LIZ CHENEY (R-Wyo.), Democrats’ favorite Republican, took to Twitter on Monday night to argue that “the Biden Administration and our allies must impose full set of crippling sanctions now.”

The sentiment quickly spread to Democrats. First, Senate Foreign Relations Chair BOB MENENDEZ (D-N.J.) chimed in: “To be clear, if any additional Russian troops or proxy forces cross into Donbas, the Biden administration and our European allies must not hesitate in imposing crushing sanctions.” Then, Sen. CHRIS COONS (D-Del.), a top Biden ally in the upper chamber, said in a statement Monday night that “the time for taking action to impose significant costs on President Putin and the Kremlin starts now.”

If Biden is losing Coons, he’s got a problem. To be sure, the administration official Monday night did tell reporters that additional sanctions were coming today, but there’s still a question about how tough they will be — and how far the White House will go — if they don’t recognize this as an invasion of Ukraine.

US Embassy trolling.

And before you post “what about Washington DC?” the US government is not claiming that Ukraine is historically and culturally a subregion of our country.

Everyone's on the same page. It's an invasion.
The Biden Administration is now calling Russia’s actions “an invasion.”
Deputy NSA Jon Finer told CNN:
“An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”
