If you knew that someone used pot regularly...

...including vaping or smoking almost daily, and occasional edible consumption, would you trust them to babysit your child?

Yes, if I also know them to be a responsible person. It is akin to drinking, in my opinion. Plenty of people who drink “regularly” are responsible.

I would not allow someone who drank daily to watch my child, either.

What are they self-medicating so often?

But I still would not want them taking care of my child.

I’m not really a drinker, but I know people who have a glass or two of wine each evening because they like the taste or it’s part of the wind down process. I don’t think drinking necessarily = getting drunk.

But doesn’t smoking or vaping pot = getting stoned every time? Why else do it?

I used to do it a lot, although I don’t at all anymore. I liked to do I before bed because it was relaxing and helped me sleep, in the same way that morning coffee is invigorating and helps me wake up. You have no idea how many daily users you know who are holding down professional jobs and raising families; it’s really common.

I know this isn’t the argument, but no one really “likes the taste of wine” until they’ve conditioned themselves to, either.

So consider wine “wind down process” = pot “wind down process”. You can drink and not get drunk, but let’s face it, if it’s part of your wind down, you’re doing it to feel happy and relaxed, which is being mildly drunk. So, if you accept that, why can’t you accept being mildly stoned? Either could just as easily wind down with a cup of chamomile tea.

Why would I want to accept my child’s sitter being mildly stoned?

Hell no.

Would you freak out the same way if your sitter was having a glass of wine while making dinner?

If your answer is yes, then you need to change sitters.

I would not want the person watching my child to be drinking or doing pot while they were watching my child. I don't care if they have a drink or two or smoke/vape some pot when they are not watching my child.

Does your sitter drink while watching your child? I’ve never heard of that being acceptable.
